If you include the Great Plains (cattle drives were there and ranches), I challenge you to drive there in winter on windy days and not get hit by tumbleweeds.

When I was 13 I shaved my head. My dad was fighting cancer for the 2nd time in 4 years and was a little messed up with the chemo. First time he saw me he said I looked like Uncle Festus, clearly mashing up Festus with Uncle Fester. I will never forget how confused I was at first until I realized what was going on. I think about that every time I see or hear one of their names.

I always prefer things in color when possible, but for some reason I only like Gunsmoke when it was the black and white episodes. Same goes for The Andy Griffith Show.

I hated Chester's whining.

Ben and Matt rode the same horse. It was used for Bonanza and Gunsmoke.
Hoss, his horse was Chubby, Little Joe’s was Cochise! The birth name of Hoss, Eric. The more you know.

Lorne Greene bought The Buckskin Horse whose real name was Danny, that he and James Arness shared riding in between Studios from 1959-1973.

Meh. I literally saw dozens if not hundreds of tumbleweeds during 6 months in Arizona.
tl;dr - I don't believe you
ETA: What are the "old westiest" towns of all? Dodge City, Abilene, and of course Tombstone. I literally saw tumbleweeds in Tombstone, Arizona.
Is Colorado Springs "the old west"?

Festus was good but I liked Gunsmoke better when Chester was the Deputy.
Agree, though understand we are in the minority. Show was grittier with Chester.

NVM - this is the "Akchually, it was an invasive species that didn't appear until 1870 and not reported until 1880- blah, blah, blah" - FFS, that was still the old west. The old west didn't really end until the turn of the century.
(Why do folks have to be like this?)
