The US FERC has given the green light to Venture Global LNG for its proposed CP2 LNG project in Louisiana.

In a 2-1 decision, FERC commissioners approved the project and the pipeline during a meeting on June 21 with commissioner Clements dissenting.

The regulator issued a final environmental impact statement for the CP2 LNG project in July last year.

Venture Global urged the regulator several times to act on the project saying that it is one of the longest to ever sit before the Commission.

FERC’s meeting agenda showed last week that the regulator will vote on Venture Global CP2 LNG and Venture Global CP Express on June 27.

The CP2 LNG plant will be located next to Venture Global’s existing Calcasieu Pass liquefaction plant in Louisiana, which is still in the commissioning phase.

It will have 18 liquefaction blocks, each with a capacity of about 1.1 mtpa of LNG, and also four 200,000-cbm full containment LNG storage tanks.

Besides the FERC approval, CP2 LNG also needs the non-FTA export authorization from the US Department of Energy.

However, the Biden administration said in January it will “temporary pause” pending decisions for LNG export terminals.

The US paused pending decisions on exports of LNG to non-FTA countries until the DOE can update the underlying analyses for authorizations.

First phase sold out
Venture Global said it has launched off-site construction and spent billions of dollars on the project.

“First LNG is expected in 2026 should the federal government act without further delay to approve CP2,” it said in March.

Venture Global recently signed a heads of agreement with a unit of Ukraine’s DTEK to supply LNG to Ukraine and Eastern Europe.

The deal provides that D.Trading will purchase up to 2 mtpa of LNG from Venture Global’s third facility, CP2 LNG, for 20 years.

Venture Global said the initial phase of CP2 LNG has been sold through 20-year sales and purchase agreements with ExxonMobil, Chevron, Jera, New Fortress Energy, Inpex, China Gas, SEFE, and EnBW.

“Venture Global is in active discussions for the remaining capacity, and has launched significant off site construction of the project while it awaits project authorizations from US regulators,” it said.

Australian engineering firm Worley secured a reimbursable engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the first phase of the LNG project.

I'm surprised at this.

I'd have thought this would have been sacrificed at the altar of climate change.

VG signed a large deal with DTEK..., the energy arm of DTEK Group, Ukraine's largest PE firm.

They also sat for 10+ months on pending with a positive environmental inspection, the longest by far.

FERC had to approve this to "deem" themselves apolitical albeit none of it matters without a DOE permit. If Biden pulls the election off, however that may be, he may selectively approve projects which places CP2 at the top of the list.

These two still have a lot of work to do on the money/legal side of things. When you see projects like this sit for long periods of time its almost always that FERC or MARAD has asked a couple of questions that cannot be addressed until delivery agreements have been made.

All they had to do was say it was for Ukraine.

Tomato tomato.

Cameron's existence as a government body is primarily ceremonial, at this point. I imagine within 10 years that it will effectively merge with Calcasieu.

Other than the obvious issues (with reducing our small parishes in general), I think the sunk cost of all those government buildings is making people hesitate.

Both parishes will be very well off because of the project. Cameron parish cannot physically house all the construction workers so calcasieau will get lots of overflow plus there isn’t a grocery store and only one restaurant in all of the city of Cameron.

Plus all the full time VG workers will live in the LC area too

7,500 citizens parish wide but they will merge kicking and screeming in Lower Cameron parish. Lower Cameron has shite the bed on everything they have done post Rita. Tina Horn spent Fed $$ like a drunken sailor on leave for a building & two schools with less than 150 kids between the two while ignoring Grand Lake and Hackberry.

Yeah almost all of those salaries (not just construction but long term) will be spent in Calcasieu Parish and Jefferson County.

I only care about the economic impacts and not where the check is cut.

I know this board doesn't care about Cameron Parish, but it's legit shocking how barren Lower Cameron is these days.

And that's where the actual government buildings are

70607 is much more likely. Carlyss would mean either relying on the ferry everyday (not smart) or going through lake charles to get to hwy 27
