A. The US GOV didn't actually say they got into the phone.
Would you?
There's value in working around the edges of the case because it worries the associates of the POS original phone owner.

B. Apple didn't help the US GOV? Maybe not publicly, don't buy in to the posturing by Apple.

C. I am in the minority here but I don't care if they Jack-Booted thugs can crack my phone. This story is a non-issue for me. I'm happy living on the grid.

If true, it has to be viewed as a chink in Apples armor. No other way to really spin it when they've spent the last 3 months telling us no one can get into the phone except Apple. Make no mistake, Apple has been trumpeting this as an example of how great their security is and now it may all fall apart.

the fbi reset the phone, well walked the san bern county people through resetting it. Doing so made the phone have a 4 digit pass code combo. No big deal to crack using brute force which simply tries every combo until its hacked. only problem is once the phone was reset it automatically put the setting to fully encrypt all data after only 10 missed unlock tries.

Once the data is encrypted, even the NSA can not read it.

from my understanding the fbi wrote a version of ios that would prevent this, only problem if they install without an apple signature file(big encrypted file used to prevent this exact type of hack) the phone will just go into encryption mode.

So its not that they can't hack it, its that in the process they will set the encryption process off and at that point the phone is nothing more than a brick.

and lol at those that think the NSA can crack pgp encryption. They have been trying for 25 years now and still can't.

Then why did they delay the hearings for today? Honest question. If all they cared about was creating legal precedent that a company provide a way to gain access to it's products, then how would a third party "possibly" gaining access have any affect?

because they are going to lose. and the more they delay the closer congress is to passing some bullshite law to force compliance. Using a vaguely worded law from the 1700s is bullshite to try and get compliance in a case like this and the FBI knows it.

and all you idiots saying you don't care, has the government not proven they will go after their political enemies? was the irs targeting of certain political groups not enough to have you worried it could happen to you? Do you not hold you government to the standards of the constitution?

I searched for "FBI" and "Apple".

Nothing came up. I am not sorry this bothers you.

It really depends on the day to determine my laziness level.

Maybe you can go out and find it for me?

If a third party can unlock why don't they just do it. This is BS just to throw mud at Apple if they could get in it they would have.

Wow pretty much none of that is true

ETA:
The FBI did get the county to reset the password. What the did was prevent the automatic backups from happening. It already had a pin. A 6 digit pin I believe. They do not know for sure if the automatic wipe after 10 tries is enabled, they just can't risk it.
The FBI did not write any software at all. They were asking Apple to write the software and sign it with their key, the only key that would allow a firmware to be forced onto the phone.

For that particular model phone, sure.

In the bigger scheme of things either:

1)The FBI really did all of a sudden find another way in

2)The FBI knew all along how to get in but realized they would lose at court.

3)Or someone higher up pulled the plug on the court case because of the negative publicity.

This is the 5C. It is know to be MUCH less secure than any other models because it does not have secure enclave which means the encryption is managed fully by software and not the hardware/chips themselves.
But I agree, this does sting a little for Apple.

Also, FWIW, I've been an android user for over 5 years, so this isn't an Apple fanboy rant

That would be pretty funny

its nothing but a stalling tactic. the fbi knows there is not shite on that phone. They are using this case as precedent and now they feel they are going to lose so they are just throwing shite against the wall and seeing what sticks.

and unlocking this phone is not a big deal in and of itself. Forcing a private company to write a back door that will put millions of americans at risk in the name of safety is.

Why is encryption great and praised by our government when it comes to things like the arab spring and political descent abroad, buts its not ok for Americans to do the same here at home?

They want to have the new ios system with the apple signature to unlock any phone it wants, frick that. I might not have anything to hide but I am a small government, anti muslim southern male. At any time we could have a president and congress voted in that sets up a theocracy and throws our constitution right out the window. History has taught me to never give power to government if I can do anything about it, because its not a matter if they will abuse it, its a matter of when they will abuse it.

If this is true then Comey could be charged with perjury because in one of the sworn statements from the FBI it explicitly stated that Apple were the only ones that could unlock the phone.

thats pretty much what I said lol. and the fbi already said all they needed was the signature file, which means they have written an operating system. and I understand about the firmware.

I did not know about the auto backup thing, but everything else I said is exactly what you just said. You just provided more details.

I was mistaken on it having the 10 try fail enabled. They don't know if it is or not.

Other than that, he wrote exactly what I wrote in more detail.
