Just wondering what parts of history the OT is most drawn to.
Mine: Texas history, the American Civil War, imperial Russia, the USSR
I'll probably never finish reading about these.

Black History. Real inspiring. Unbelievable stories of power and perseverance against the numerous struggles they still face today.

20th century in general, since so much crazy stuff happened. Also European history from the 17th century to present

Economic history tied to historical events. Titanic, pirates, gold rush, war bonds, green rush, CIA running drugs, mafias, cartels. All of that has some economics tied into it and I like the backstory of where the money is buried.

YES.
In recent years, I've finally seen how intimately linked the economy and history are tied.
They're inseparable.
I try to read between the lines when I hear anything relating to business/ the economy.

Early modern warfare. Woefully under discussed. 30 years war, The Siege of Viennashameless bump.
WW1.
Ancient warfare
The evolution of warfare.
The Napoleonic wars.
Pre-ww2 naval combat.
Piracy

I honestly love history topics on the OT because they get me down rabbit holes. And then in the holes I find inspiration to tell tales.
I just saw something about Teutoburg, and now I’m researching and writing about the rebels of Germania that stopped the advance of the Roman Legion there.
Here’s the start.
Teutoburg
Now I’ll tell the tale of Teutoburg, how fell the Roman legion,
Of the arrogance of Varus, and brave warriors of that region,
Of the rebels of Germania, who would not bend the knee,
Ending with the scene of Legionaries, hanging on a tree,
Give me your ear, and I’ll recall,
Of The time when Rome was bested by the Gaul
It’s late and I’m tired. But it’s a tale that deserves to be told Battle of Teutoburg Forest wiki

I'm an ancient history guy myself. I like the real old stuff, like Neolithic and Bronze Age. We don't know much other than what is found at archaeological digs, but a lot was going on back then. Tons of violence and chaos.
I also enjoy Greek and Roman stuff as well.
