I had a professor named Dr Schierling (sp) at LSU that taught Greek and Roman mythology. He was quite possibly my favorite teacher I've ever had.
That was my experience with Roman history, loved that teacher.

1- Latin 2090 with Dr. Clarke (Greek and Roman mythology)
2- Louisiana History with Mark Carleton (who BTW was my one degree of separation from Alexander Kerensky--as a grad instructor at Stanford, he actually had Kerensky come and speak to his class)
both wonderful men!!!

In the late 90s he'd cut class early and said it would be continued at the Chimes and we'd go drink pints and continue our discussions. That part was voluntary of course but I always went

US Military History, or the Civil War and Reconstruction
Gary Gallagher is a great scholar, but those classes were just fun. If you want to go off into a rabbit hole, see if any of his talks are on You Tube.
I loved Russian history Yuri Urbanovich, he was an ex Soviet diplomat, a bear of man, with a huge personality that filled the room. An easy man to love.
But Allen Lynch, he’s simply a great man. His work on Russia is phenomenal.

Herpetology. Labs out in the field were pretty damn fun. Saw a wild racer latch onto my professors face one day.

I was a Biological Sciences major, but for my specific concentration, I took a Wildlife Ecology class over in the Forestry building at State. It was a nice change of pace and the teacher was great. He had some entertaining stories that he could relate to his lecture.

Civil War Battle Strategy. Basically every first class of the week was story time over a battle, and your homework assignment would be to put forth a winning strategy for the losing side of that battle, and then the professor would grade you in front of the class and tell you why you’re likely wrong.

I was in Criminal Justice so nothing was too exciting on my curriculum. So I'd say either Criminal Courts or Policing.

Did he kinda look like Nick Nolte? If so, he taught my second level Latin class. Great professor.

Immunology with Dr. Seibling. I also enjoyed the three psych classes.

Yep. He died in maybe 1999 or so but that's him.

That’s sounds like serious fun, this was at Ole Miss?
I had a friend who took Ancient Warfare at UVa. They had a mock phalanx battle, and they built siege engines as their cap stone projects. Ballista and trebuchet.

African American Studies
Not my favorite class exactly ... but freshman year 1st semester I had professor I liked for my required English class. Following spring semester, I was looking for another required elective and chose African American Literature class because it was taught by my same professor. I was a little hesitant but I liked the guy and he knew me, so I went with it.
I was the only white guy in the class (up to 20 people or so). I got the highest grade on every paper. It became a running joke amongst the other students. “Man how this white dude gets the highest grade every time??”

I took a wine tasting class at northwestern back in the early 2000’s. We met twice a week for a semester and just drank wine. It was pretty bad arse. I was on a full scholarship so I basically got shite faced twice a week for a semester on NSU’s dime.
