Some of us are actually familiar with Russian culture and heritage and are able to form a nuanced opinion somewhere between recognizing the Russian focus on conservative family values and knowing it’s still not somewhere we would want to live.

FYI, Jody is translated Dzhodi in Russian.

Their move to Russia was prompted by their dissatisfaction with what they saw as progressive overreach in the American education system.
Well yea. Normal, non brainwashed Americans talk to their children about what’s going on and political issues. Others just pull them out of public school (here).
Brainwashed morons drag their family to Russia seeking “freedom”.
Article has a hefty amount of spin in it I’m sure.

Woke America is now gone. When did he leave?

What’s funny about it?
Look, Russia is an a-hole, no doubt BUT
-The Orthodox Church is heavily supported with high attendance rates.
-Russia does not support the “gay agenda” or the “trans lifestyle” - to a fault.
-They have much stronger parental rights than the US - until they are sent to the front line.
If you spent any time there outside the large cities, you would likely be very surprised. Smolensk reminded me very much of south Louisiana when interacting with locals.

Combined with alcohol dependency and the abortion rate, I fail to understand what you mean by conservative family values. Unless, your opinion is based solely off of culture war issues.

There aren’t many shared US values with Russia or the Ukraine. It makes it even more ignorant to have moved after Trump was elected (and maybe after he was inaugurated as it just says move was earlier in the year) and to have moved from a red state like Texas instead of a beyond help blue state. I am sure a more conservative county inside Texas would have been an easier move.

Mr Huffman’s last message came in June, marking Father’s Day in the US.
quote:Double downed on the stupid by first going to Russia in the first place and then joining its military to fast track citizenship and expecting it to remain non-combat during a war.
Mr Huffman had initially agreed to join the Russian military in a non-combat capacity, thinking at first he would be a welder and later a war correspondent.

Yes. It gets the temporary visas in the program fast tracked to citizenship.
