Damn that's a really nice area of New Orleans. Stunnedit took place on N. Claiborne and Marigny. If it can happen there it can happen in New Orleans East next!

Hate to see someone get gunned down on their lunch break.

Nothing to see here. Tourists will still flock to new orleans to eat good food, get so wasted on bourbon street that they won't mind being in a war zone, throw up, then go home.

Seems someone cared enough to start this thread. Seems others cared enough to reply. Seems tens of thousands care as they argue back and forth about the direction of the city.

People who hate where they live like to come and post threads like this, it gets the NOLA Knights all worked up.

This is all relative.
If we took these current crime stats back to 1990, New Orleans would probably rank pretty high in safety.
Relatively speaking today, it is not as safe as other cities, but it isn't exactly Mosul either.
Not to mention, posting every single horrific crime that happens somewhere as if it is a sign that things are "getting out of control" is moronic.
New Orleans has its problems relative to other cities, but the fact remains crime has been steadily progressing downwards for the most part over 2 straight decades along with crime nation wide. New Orleans will never have the crime rate of Martha's Vineyard.
But who are we kidding, the point of this thread was never to have a real discussion using facts or anything of that nature.

Without looking at stats, I thought crime, as a whole, in the US has decreased over the past 15-20 years? I could be wrong. Also, is crime worse today in New Orleans than it was in the 90s? I know NO was labeled as the "murder capital of the world" in the mid 90s.
The rap music that came out of New Orleans in the 90s made up for the crime. Partner N Crime use to pump pump the party.

Yes, crime rates on the whole have gone down nationwide over that time. New Orleans was part of that trend, whatever the reasons for it was.
Yes, I have to imagine New Orleans crime is down now compared to when there was over a murder a day.

We should also mention that the population is down as well... compared to the 90s.

Crime in the inner cities has been steadily going up the last two years. Milwaukee, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Chicago, Indianapolis, Baltimore, Nola, and a couple of other cities all had notable jumps in murders last year.

The per capita rates for murder are down.

You sure it has gone up in Chicago?

Ya, I've read articles claiming that. Hopefully its a small tick up in the trend. Would hate to see the 1980s return.

I think a lot of it has to do with the BLM movement and handicapped police departments.
