Based on this Facebook post, this looks to be the precious family gone too soon.
Well damn. I know her mom and family. They are from Ragley

Weather conditions in BR went great yesterday evening…. I hope they weren’t operating in questionable weather
They lived in Indian Village around Kinder. Pat's is a 30-minute car ride from Kinder. It was not the best decision to take a heli for what would have been a 30-minute drive in the weather yesterday. It was overcast, and windy with some rain here and there.
I don't understand why people who make some money suddenly want to become part-time pilots and then make decisions like this. Their desire to fly outweighs their logical decision-making.

Guy is a fool flying his family to supper at night in a helicopter.
Family
Helicopter
Nighttime.
To much inherent risk to make it worth it.
This was a “ looksatme” for him.

That doesn't make any sense to me. Did they go to Pat's IN Henderson or in Lake Charles?
I wonder what caused the crash.

I read that the wife was an only child and it took her years to have the baby. Her poor parents. They were having a lovely life with that little family and now they have no family.

I was downvoted giving initials, so I guess I can get some more for saying I was told he was not licensed and without auto pilot
Student that couldn’t have passengers

Someone just posted the below on his Facebook page. I don't know what a "single certification" entails, but I would assume it's some sort of license and allows for passengers. Maybe a pilot here can tell us.

You loved that helicopter. The ride I took with you the day you got your single certification made ME love helicopters.

Second Louisiana father to kill his family because he bit off more than he could chew in an aircraft. I feel bad for the wife and daughter and her family.

I don’t know much about helicopter licenses, but if it is anything like fixed wing aircraft it could be single engine license, as in you could only operate helicopters with one engine, which the R-44 is.

Pats of Henderson in LC the crash site is a straight shot from Chennault to where they live. They crashed within a couple miles of their house.

I just don't get living in Kinder and flying to LC for dinner.
ETA: I don't want to come off like I'm speaking ill of the dead. He owned a car dealership from what I gather, so I'm sure he had plenty of solid transportation in vehicles. By the time you get the helicopter, take off, land and get to the restaurant, you probably could have arrived sooner in a car.

Maybe not have seen a helicopter parked on the front lawn at lunchtime (interstate and restaurant) before.

I just wrote the NTSB and told them they don't need to investigate the crash. Boat has concluded it was pilot error rather than mechanical failure or some other event.

Yeah I’m with ya on that. Like someone said visibility was not the best. Low clouds just not favorable conditions especially someone that’s inexperienced. 30 minute drive, just tragic.

An instructor told a pilot I know that his application wasn’t approved
Would be a reckless thing to say if not true
I trust the pilot’s info

It’s extremely likely it was a human caused crash. On the off chance it was mechanical he still killed his family in an aircraft.

Looking at FB he took people for rides during the capital one tower explosion. I couldn’t imagine getting in a helicopter with someone that’s not certified.

Yes, it would be a reckless thing to say if not true. He sure was flying other folks based on his Facebook pictures. Maybe he just told the person who posted on his FB page that he was certified, but I'm still unclear as to what all that entails or allows. Maybe your friend can tell you.

The flight prep/walk around would take longer than the drive.
