The job market in New Orleans is awful
Unless you are: waiter, bartender, doctor, lawyer....
What else is there to be?
Atlanta has bankers and businessmen and engineers. New Orleans has nothing like that.

lol, Atlanta also has a metro area of almost 6 million too.
There are tons of finance and engineering jobs downtown(sup, Entergy). Have you seen our skyline, those buildings are not just full of personal injury attorneys. Bywater, 7th ward and downtown are becoming a hotbed for IT companies as well.
For a city it's size, NOLA is doing just fine employing folks with high paying jobs.

Probably already been stated, but the population change between 2010 and 2019 doent really indicate the fastest growing cities in 2019

Instead they are piling into Midcity, Bywater, Treme, Uptown, etc. everything is busting at the seems, except the East.
A guy is bitching about too many people when there has been more people.
Obviously the tourism has gone back up too. With Airbnb more people are staying in homes in these areas when they visit as well.

Not surprised about any of the Texas cities. After reading the comments, Kent makes since.
It’s funny to see the various cycles that cities go through. Detroit, Toledo, and Cleveland are shrinking, with metro areas stagnant, but are going through SOMEWHAT of a renaissance in their downtown areas. I’m sure it will be a very slow, drawn out, process.
All it takes is for the right companies to pop up or move, and those cities could grow once again.
On the flip side, you have places like SF, Seattle, and Austin booming. But with that comes rising real estate costs. At some point, the bubble will burst. Is it possible that some day, we will see one of these cities erode from the inside out like a Cleveland or Detroit?

No, but East Baton Rouge is by far the largest parish in the state by population.
It’s hovering around 450,000.
The Baton Rouge metro area also gained another parish (St James) this year. That’s driven by commuter trends. The Baton Rouge metro area is somewhere between 850,000 and 875,000 people. Now the Baton Rouge metropolitan area and the New Orleans metropolitan area border each other.
Another interesting factoid: Lafayette metro area surpasses the Shreveport metro area recently. The Lafayette metropolitan area is now the third largest in the state.

I would like to see New Orleans approach its 2000 or 1990 population. In 1960, there were 620,000 people living in the city limits.
I think the biggest obstacle to achieving that is the lack of good white collar jobs. In that respect, New Orleans just can’t compete with Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Nashville, Memphis, etc.
