I love how Larson viewed the world and was able to convey those thoughts in a cartoon. His cartoon strip and Stephen Wright's stand up act were the best.
My God, THIS!

Some great memories here.
I just got my Perry Bible Fellowship book in after it went back on sale on Amazon. Gurewitch is amazing and my favorite cartoonist of the past decade.

I hadn't seen the "Thank God there's a border collie" one, but I just cracked up in my office. Here's my favorite:

my favorite Far Side cartoon is set in the old west. If I could find it I would post the picture. But the gist is there is a local standing there talking to the old west Sheriff. There is also an Alien standing there next to a smoking pile of ash where the Alien has just zapped someone with a ray gun. The local tells the Sheriff:
"Twern't the aliens fault, Sheriff, ol' Jeb put his hand in one of the alien's orifices and starting yellin' 'Jimmy crack corn' " Not sure why that is so funny to me but it cracks me up.

Back in '84, he did an AP interview. There was a cartoon he drew, which had me and my friends baffled it just made no sense. In the article, the writer asked him about that particular one, and Larsen admitted that he drew it as an inside joke, about a college professor. Made me feel not quite as dumb.
He also drew an album cover for a jazz guitarist, Herb Ellis. Ellis "paid" for the cover by giving him guitar lessons.

Every now and then I come across one that I don't get, and it bothers the shite out of me.
