How many miles does a 2009 Kia have? No way I'd fly out there before telling him your plan. I'd just tell them that you'd like to get something with lower miles that will last her through college, I mean 4 more years that 2009 will be 12 years old. As a dad I think that's a perfectly reasonable conversation.
Given that, I doubt your $3,000 SUV is worth that. 300k miles is a ton, not many people willing to pay $3k cash for that imo. A trucks a different story as people are dumb about trucks. I sold a car with 230k miles and no one wanted to pay close to blue book value.

Just tell him that your daughter always wanted a (name vehicle) and tell him you would like to use his gift to help fund her desire! Thank him profusely for his generosity! I would have no issue as your brother if you presented that scenario to me. I'd want my niece to be happy as can be.

Depending on the model Kia they can be good cars and run right with a Toyota for mileage. I've seen lots of Camary's with holes in the block and other problems, they break also.
I agree with others in you should keep the car or refuse it, just accepting to sell does not show any class to me.

Most cars are as safe as the driver behind the wheel. No amount of five star safety ratings will fix a bad driver.

Sounds like a douche move to sell it.
Save while she is driving a free car to buy something else in case it breaks.

Whatever you do, don't speak to your BIL about this. It shows weakness. So he knows your daughter has a car but wants to give her another one?! Because it's better?!
He is obviously trying to make the statement he can provide for your family better than you can. He wants everyone to know who is the leader of the family before your daughter goes to college.
You need to shite on his front porch. It's the only option at this point.

I would just tell him thank you but you were planning on getting something a little bit newer so it will last longer (without bashiing how crappy his car is). He should be fine with you trading it in if that's the case. Just make sure your daughter knows about his gift and to have her thank him as well.
Just get something slightly newer and more reliable, as you said.

I gave my fil a gs300 with 160k Miles on it because it was worth more to me than what kbb deemed. If he would have turned around and sold it I would have been pissed tbh

Option 2, keep it a little while thentrade in the KIA without telling him. Instead, tell him that some drunk jerkoff crashed into the car while it was parked in a parking lot, totaling it, and that you had to replace it.

Lol. Seriously guys, there is some good human nature stuff in this thread. It's obvious to me that I accept his gift gratefully and revisit it if I need to down the road but probably not until then.
