re: ExxonMobil withdraws ITEP requests, future Baton Rouge expansion in question

So how do we get XOM to be annexed INTO St George?
Posted on 1/22/19 at 9:54 pm to topdollarbill
Ha I agree but EBR is not like those you listed. It would be more fair to compare those to the AP, St. James, St. Chuck, and Calcasieu parish councils (or however they are set up...municipal/parish)

Not possible. No contiguous border to proposed STG boundaries.
Fun Fact: Exxon isn't even in the City of Baton Rouge. It's unincorporated. They don't pay CATS tax, nor do they pay several other millages that everyone else pays, among them BR Fire. The argument is they have their own fire protection. That's a bunch of bullshite cause I distinctly remember the BR Fire engines rolling in there several times over the years, specifically when they had the explosion back 25 years or so ago.
In the EBR Plan of Government, there are three distinct areas. Industrial, City, and Rural.
Industrial areas are not in the city limits and thus do NOT pay city specific property tax millages.
But hey, they are big, if you question the status quo you must be a commie from Together BR, and we should let them steamroll us like they have for 80+ years, cause it's good business!

It's still tough to compete when Texas has all of this, in greater magnitude,
They don't have the pipeline infrastructure we have, and I would doubt they have any transportation advantage. The rail system for the plants here is pretty legit, and we also have the Intracoastal Waterway and other marine transport avenues.

Sure it is contiguous, go straight up the river, yeah i know it is far fetched and non logical, but so were the lines kip was drawing ,when he was getting big business to be annexed into BR

I guess the people on the school board forget about the fact that XOM pumps over $2 million a year into the education system via contributions/donations/etc
Posted on 1/22/19 at 10:06 pm to topdollarbill
So one time 25 yrs ago XOM had assistance from Baton Rouge fire dept during one of the worst explosions in history of refining in Louisiana
That’s the example you used to call bullshite in XOMs current fire fighting capability

That 2 million is just enough to buy folks off instead of paying their actual tax bill. It's a pittance.
If I give 1% of my property tax bill to your favorite charity, can I not pay 65% of what it should be?
But but but they give to schools! What a joke.

I've never had a fire at my house. I still pay.
Typically, fire fighters are the first units on a scene when there's an injury or accident.
You telling me there's no injuries / car wrecks in the parking lots / cats climbing up trees at those facilities? Heart attacks? Strokes? All fire department.

They have 3x the NGL pipeline. They also have the Port of Houston, rail, and and logistical advantages by proximity.

Your argument against them saying they dont have their own fire protection is that the city sent some fire trucks in one of the biggest explosions ever in the state at their plant?

No, but arguments like this from you just makes us think you are a tard

They have more gas pipelines and an obvious, definite tranportation advantage.

In 2017 Exxon paid $32 million in property taxes to East Baton Rouge Parish. You are just making shite up.

There are, I believe, 5 refineries in the Bay Area of San Francisco.
If they stay there, they're damn sure staying in BR.

It’s fairly obvious he is a tard. Definitely talking out of his arse about what the company’s in-house capabilities are. I guess the $85 Million a year the company pays in state and local taxes isn’t enough for all these posters since they are obviously such significant contributors to the community. I’m sure a number of whom don’t live in Baton Rouge or even in Louisiana. Just like the TBR terrorists.

I'm not arguing that they don't have top notch internal fire protection. I'm sure they do. I hope they do.
I'm saying that in my opinion, they should also pay for BR Fire, but they don't.
I don't use CATS. But I pay for it on several properties I own. Again, Exxon doesn't pay CATS tax. If I have to pay and don't use it, why don't they pay? I'm sure they have a bus stop somewhere around there and from time to time, a few janitors or security guards ride the bus.
I'm using Fire and CATS as examples of millages that no land in the Industrial Areas as defined in the EBR POG pay. I believe that's wrong, and was specifically done way back in the day because some fat cat cut a deal with the mayor and council at the time to hookup industry.

You pay it voluntarily?
If I took care of my trash all by myself, you think I should pay the city for a garbage man that I dont need?

$85 Million a year
I don't care if they pay 85 dollars or 85 billion dollars.
I just want them to pay what we all pay % wise. That's my beef. I love Exxon. I do business with Exxon and their contractors.
They are pulling the wool over us and have been for years. The subsidies are out of control. This isn't a question of profits. They make plenty. Good on them. Happy for them. I'm MAGA as frick.
