Jesus, that aerial before and after is insane.
It is. Just imagine if all of these warehouses around it were apartments instead.
It's one thing to have a commercial buffer/perimeter around a chemical plant or something, but to have it around a grain silo and a dry warehouse is a small silver lining.

The Russian who owned the N cargo before it was impoundedLINK is in a photo at this site.
My husband had some experience with explosives while he was in the army and the crater that the explosion created impressed the hell out of him. He had worked on trying to create 'instant harbors' theoretically, of course, and he was impressed by the first shots. The comparison aerials really got his attention, and we both wondered if the soil was vaporized, or blown into the ship channels between the piers.

Looks like someone photoshopped a cruise ship on its side on the right side of that after aerial pic.

Not gonna lie, i’m disappointed there aren’t mountains of popcorn there

That’s incredible. If you told me that was an opening sequence in a new action mkvie I would believe you and would want to see it

The ship in the background on its side looks like a "half hull" from the 1800s that were used instead of blue prints (which didn't exist then) to build a boat. And the plimsoll line paint shows how much of the below water line isn't below water any more.
Must have been a hell of a rescue to get to people on that ship.

I don't think that was a Toyota Hilux backfiring.
Top Gear fan? Would a Hilux survive?

These kernels are far too large to undergo dispersion, so we thus avoided a fuel-air explosion as I had originally feared.
what does this mean exactly? I feel dumb.

If it wasn’t so far I’d drive there to fill up my deer feeders with that corn

The corn kernels are too big to light off in a dust cloud explosion.

Corn starch is to blame for at least two recorded dust explosions. Not sure there are any other recorded cases of a dust explosion from corn/corn-milled product.

Dust explosions are a constant concern at grain elevators. Dust can build in the air at transfer points like dumps and loadouts and can explode if it ignites. Typically elevators are required to have a dust collection scheme to mitigate this risk.
