That would be 1899 to 1900.

It happened in 1947. I posted about it and my dad living through it as a child on pg. 15 of this thread. The Galveston Hurricane was in 1900. Two of the worst disasters in U.S. history happened within 20 miles of each other, one man-made ( killed over 500) and one natural (killed over 6000).

It was an arms depot. Missiles from Iran. First, the warheads were destroyed. Listen to them going off.

Less than 3 seconds for it to reach him. Holy shite. Did not have time to worry about dying.

Has anyone reported how long the fire burned before the explosion? There’s a huge smoke plume already at the start of all the videos. Seems like it would take a while for a fire to get to that point, unless there was a smaller explosion before the big one?

I’m asking because presumably somebody knew what was stored in that warehouse. Just wondering if they made any effort to evacuate the area or if they even had time.

By and large, nuclear plants are a controlled environment with strict evacuation plans. Chemical plants are the exact opposite

I assure you, when compared to a nuclear plant, your average chemical plant is wide open. I've lived and worked near both. Nuclear plants have posted evacuation routes for surrounding areas. They have well-maintained lines of communication with the public and a firm plan in place if shite goes sideways.

Your average chemical plant doesn't. Hell, most people living around them are unaware of the inherent risk. Yes, within the chemical plant, in regards to workers, the safety is much better, but that is not what I was speaking of.

The plant I was referring to has miles of above-ground transfer piping. It has a rail yard with a couple hundred tankers on it at any given time. It has warehouses visible from the road that house all sorts of nasty things. None of that screams "controlled environment".

You can drive a boat up to the bank of the river it is on. The fence is maybe 30 yards or so from the river. They do have security guards, but not many, and it is a massive facility. You do your own math on that one.

What are those pics trying to say?

I believe the 2 pics of the warehouse doors relate to the theory that a welder was welding these specific doors shut, sparks ignited fireworks and fireworks ignited the ammonium.

That’s at least the info being put out by the Lebanese media/government.

Any links to this? Not surprised at all but how dumb does one have to be to weld near a fireworks warehouse?

Carlos Osweda is on to to something. @Cosweda Twitter

Al Arabiya reporting: "Initial information: The explosion occurred in a Hezbollah arms store in Beirut Port."

There were actually THREE explosions when you look at the different angles.

The "fireworks" explosion, the smoke-tower explosion, and the explosion that produced the white dome of water vapor, which became a vortex ring

The long-range video shows the shockwave rippling through the clouds overhead, about 20 seconds after the big one, then wait for it ... BOOM.

Probably the best video I've seen yet. Damn.

To be fair, there’s Facebook live and many other live video social media platforms. You can have a video going while you die.

Live stream

Someone on Twitter said on another post that he died.

I don’t see how he would’ve survived that. Even if he somehow did, I doubt he would take the time to upload a video if he’s in critical condition
