No. He's talking about the two ships loaded with 3,200 tons of ammonium nitrate that blew up in Texas City in 1947. It is considered the worst industrial accident in US history. The first ship to explode had 2,200 tons of ammonium nitrate in the holds. The explosion hurled the ship's anchor over a mile inland.

At least 581 killed and over 5,000 injured.

ETA Just saw a video of Texas City explosion
Not the one I was thinks about.
The one I was thinking of was a few years ago

You talking about the BP refinery in Gavleston, TX? If so, I witnessed that first hand and that wasn't comparible to this one

I’ve seen someone allude to the fire starting due to fireworks, and you do see a bunch of sparkling in the fire plume before the big explosion happens.

The more I look at the so-called "Fireworks" exploding the more I think that Fireworks were not being stored in that building. I think there were small munitions that were going off first and then the sodium nitrate explosion hit which is why I think this was a weapons depot explosion.

that's most likely the ones they were able to locate and piece together. I imagine that alot of bodies may never be found

There was confiscated sodium nitrate stored there. That's what caused the large explosion which was apparently ignited by the fireworks.

No before the sodium nitrate blew up.

I agree, those don't look like fireworks. Looks like small munitions cooking off.

MORE THAN 30 people.

Translation: We counted 30. There are probably way more, but we won't know for a while.

Can anyone with an engineering or construction background allude to what effect that shockwave might have on the structural integrity of those nearby high rises?

Imagine how frustrating it is to have your war torn historic city finally coming back to a point where it's attractive and vibrant only to have an accident like this send you right back to the civil war days.

The confiscated materials [sodium nitrate] weigh more than 50 tonnes”.

Now I'm more sure than ever that this was a weapons depot.
