Bombing near the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok

My thought go out to all those injured in the bombing. The bombing just happened near the Erawan Shrine in Central Bangkok. My wife and I used to walk by it all the time. So it's scary seeing it like this.

Apparently they also found a few bombs that weren't detonated.

Awful.

Supposedly there's a threat for 10 more locations.

A friend of mine just posted on Facebook that she usually walks past the Shrine on her way home from shopping to watch the dancers. She happened to take the Skytrain home tonight instead of walk.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was Muslims. They were attacking parts of Southern Thailand when I lived there. It only makes sense that they move North.

Except probably not.

There's been pretty intense civil unrest there for years now. They've never made it an issue with tourists really until now.

There has been an insurgency in south Thailand for awhile. It could be part of that.

I lived in Bangkok for several years growing up, still have many friends there. Know exactly where this was, tons of tourists in this area.

Scary stuff, hope everyone I know is OK, prayers for those involved

Which part of the city did you live in? I lived there from 2005-2008. Our apartment was on Sukhumvit Soi 39, not far from Phrom Phong BTS station.

But Malaysia is Muslim and it borders Thailand in the south. Southern Thailand has been hit pretty hard by Muslim attacks and kidnappings for quit a while.
