Isn't under age driving or driving without a license illegal? If so, there was a crime still being committed. Just sayin'

Here's something more than an X link:

An Adams County judge sentenced Orest Schur, of Aurora, to 54 years in prison following his conviction in June. Schur was a sergeant in the Army before he transferred to work at Buckley Space Force Base until the end of his service a year ago.
In July 2023, Schur chased the 13 and 14-year-olds down in the 19500 block of East 58th Circle after allegedly catching them trying to take his wife's car. Although they didn't succeed in taking the car, Shur chased after them.
Investigators say Schur started shooting at them and wounded the 13-year-old with a gunshot wound to the back. He ultimately killed 14-year-old Xavier Kirk. Neither of the boys were armed, and the investigation found 11 shots were fired even as the boys ran away.
Family members spoke at the sentencing, asserting that the teens made a mistake, but didn't deserve to die. One family member said, "You know, kids make mistakes, and so, I always teach my kids in my family, like my nephews and nieces, about consequences and repercussions. We're not trying to excuse any wrongdoing of Xavier, or wrong they were involved in. The part that's messed up is Orest Shur's car was never stolen."

They shouldn’t have been killed, but saying “kids just make mistakes” isn’t really fair. Most 13/14 year old mistakes aren’t grand theft auto.

This type of response hasn't been legal in two centuries
Not only that, but sinful if you claim to be a Christian.

Should've been found guilty of the lowest charge legally possible.
Manslaughter or something similar. Serve 364 days in prison, 5 years probation.
Secretly given an award for public service.

But how do you get charged with 1st degree murder for this. Seems like a pretty classic heat of the moment killing.
Because of this:
quote:
The sergeant gave chase in his car and fired multiple rounds at the teens.
The fleeing car crashed into the backyard fence of a home four blocks south of Schur’s residence.
Kirk and his teen accomplice hopped out of the damaged car and began running away as Schur continued to fire.
Not using the ample time to cool down and course correct = first degree murder in this country.
He was no longer defending his property, as the teens failed to steal his car, yet he continued to hunt them down.
Sucks for everyone involved, but this was likely an easy one for the jury.

This isn't Liberia, dude. People have rights in this country. Take it up with the Constitution.

Schur confronted the individuals, but the would-be carjackers fled in another car.
while i dont give 2 shits about the lil wastes of space that got killed and injured, this guy does need to get jail time. He could of easily injured an innocent bystander with this type of behavior.
murder though? not so much.

Switch the scenario around and the the same posters would be screaming to lock them up for life for stealing a car.

Wanting to kill someone for trying to steal your fricking Hyundai Elantra is just crazy. Dude’s picture is definitely showing some loose screws.
“Mr. Ociffer- They were trying to steal my lawnmower but failed and took off. I gave pursuit down the street and just started blasting. I’m free to go right?”
“Also, Ashli Babbitt was murdered and was doing nothing wrong.”

Yea, you can't do that.
But if we're honest, we're glad he did

There are stupid analogies, and then there is this. I hope your shoulder is OK after this reach.

I don't really give a frick about Ashli Babbit, but the facts in that case are so drastically different that it defies logic that you would compare them, and says a lot about you.

As he should have.
That headline in no way describes what happened.

If people were legally allowed this response, there'd be a whole lot less "theft".

Yes, you should be able to chase down people who are trying to break into your property. You should be able to detain them. If they will not let you detain them, you should be allowed to incapacitate them using whatever method you have available.
Could you imagine the rodeo if we allowed the above?
And I love how the same people scream “it’s the constitution!!!!” For the right to bear arms are real quick to say frick the constitution for the whole right to a fair trial

Not sure what you mean. That's exactly what anti-police people are advocating for. This is what you get when there are no police and/or crimes aren't prosecuted.
Also, can you point to any part of the article stating he shot the wrong people?
