That’s why this is a big deal. He was a global icon. And while you may not have liked him or don’t understand why we place athletes on pedestals we do. What stood out about Kobe was his Mamba Mentality. The placing his craft above everything else. You could apply that to anything from being the most dedicated baker to a top notch surgeon.

I didn’t realize that mambas put their craft before everything else.

It’s a good thing for a culture to memorialize our most talented people. It brings us together and it makes us reflect on our common mortality.

That said, it’s better to be stoic and respectful rather than the Grief Junkie stuff you see on social media. That cheapens the moment.

I liked Kobe but don’t really get inspired by a guy putting a rubber ball through a round hoop. You seem to be a celebrity obsessed person from your posts here though

Yes. Unfortunately, it gets worse every year and you truly realize how callous and vile people can be on the internet. You just deep down hope that in real life they aren’t as morally bankrupt as they come across online.

He was one of the world’s most popular athletes. Perhaps only Jordan, LeBron and a handful of soccer players were more well known. Obviously, in part, because it was unique, but he was in the rare are of being simply a “one name” athlete.

Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady, Steve Jobs, whomever. I like watching people with a drive to be excellent.

It’s not celebrity these idiots are obsessed with. It’s playing a game for millions of dollars they played in PE when they were 12.

It’s not realistic for 99% of the population.

If it’s a professional athlete that inspires you to do something when you get out of bed in the morning, your life is pretty sad to begin with. Probably because of your parents.

What's the percentage of doctors have had the opportunity to make a 170 million dollars guaranteed 4 year contracts? What's the percentage of kids playing basketball have learned things like how to be a leader or finding a role best fit for them. Sports are a great avenue for kids to learn discipline. It takes good coaches on the ground level to do that. If more doctors would take on a teaching role maybe we would have more doctors? Just a thought.

Would you bitch about those doctors having to treat patients instead of keeping an appointment, too?
