That’s because they learn the language formally.
Americans take English but we mostly learn to speak it colloquially.
Many native Spanish speakers also struggle in Spanish classes offered in American high schools.
We teach a version of Spanish that is not only overly formal, but is outdated and just doesn't work well conversationally

If your native language is Swedish you HAVE to speak English to get by in an international world. Nobody is learning Swedish as their second language. I've had similar experience with the Dutch and Finnish.
Most of Europe is similar, with the possible exception of the French as they're pissed that their history of waving white flags has knocked their language off of the top of the podium as far as International use is concerned. Some Germans can be stuck up about it, but just remind them of what happened in the 1940's and they'll shut up.
If a Swedish guy takes a vacation to Italy, Spain, and Greece - all of his conversations with all of those locals will be in English, despite it being NONE of their first languages.
Ironically enough, about the only place in Europe where you might have trouble getting by on American English is England.

Pretty sure the American-English language will shift to kids actually being taught Ebonics in school.
No it won't. AAVE is also perfectly legitimate dialect of English.

This. My neighbors are swedish. They speak it with an American accent because they say they watch more American TV and movies than anything else.

The progressive movement legitimizes the inferior so that feelings will be saved. Soon, all redneck speech and Ebonics will be considered equal to proper grammar.
Oops, too late. Two posts above this one.

This "sheep fricking" dialect doesn't bother me nearly as much as certain other dialects.

I’ve known quite a few Swedish musicians in Nashville, and all if them speak impeccable English.
Songwriter/Producer/Swede Max Martin has the third-most number one songs behind only Lennon and McCartney with English as his second language.

My Irish buddy speaks an American accent to us but when he talks to his wife on the phone, I can’t understand one effing thing he says.
