I did. I was candid and honest about it. Happened at Campus Fed Credit Union about an IT position. Salary was not posted and ended up being way too low for actual programming asp and vb stuff(10 yrs ago). I basically said, "oh I don't think this is what I am looking for. Thank yall for your time though. Really appreciate the interview." Shook both their hands and left.
No hard feelings.

When I first moved to Nashville after college, I had no job lined up. I just basically threw a dart at a map and said I wanted to live here. Had barely any idea what kind of job I wanted and had no leads on them.

Looking back, that was dumb, but it all worked out and I have a great job now and so does my wife.

That being said, I was looking for gigs on craigslist I was so desperate. I went to one that posed as a sales job at a very nice place. I went to the office in my suit and tie and it seems very legit. The people looked professional and the office space was very, very nice and convincing. I am waiting with the receptionist for my interview and a 25 year old kid walks up to me and says, “time to shadow me”.

We then drive an hour outside of Nashville to some podunk town and proceed to walk door to door in our suit and ties to sell office supplies. It’s the middle of summer and I am sweating my dick off. I immediately knew I wouldn’t take this job, but I was stuck doing this for 9 HOURS. I find out from the guy I’m with that they get barely any commission and pay for their own gas and sales supplies.

When I get back to the office, THEN it is time for the interview with the head guy. I am sweaty, exhausted, and had to eat burger king in White Trash, USA for 2 meals that day. I see the boss through the glass doors to his office interviewing the candidate before me and he is a 35ish year old absolute sleezeball looking guy with slicked back hair named Gustav plastered in a gaudy gold name plate on the door. I kindly asked the receptionist where the bathroom was and walked out the door to my car and left. It was already dark and I had arrived at 7:30 AM.

I found out later it’s a pyramid sales scheme designed to trap desperate college kids to sell their shite and earn peanuts in return.

I don’t feel bad at all about it considering I will never meet those people in business, they won’t remember who I am, and they were intentionally vague about the job on the listing and put up a completely fake front posing as a legit business.

these were typically easy to spot when they'd call you because they would never specify what the job was. I'd always schedule an interview just to waste their time and they'd always call back to reschedule the interview....and I would.

That exact thing happened to me. I moved to Nashville out of college too. I'm sure it was the same company. See my previous post. Although I didn't go door to door for 9 hours. I told them to bring me back after the second house.

No, I would respect their time and finish the interview, but I sure would let them know that their offer was too low for my needs and experience.

I remember these. At LSU, I remember going to class and there would constantly be hand written notes in the corner of the whiteboard about workforstudents.com or some shite. They would always advertise the jobs in ways that made you think you would get $15 an hour but it was really $15 per sales meeting you did with a client.

I thought about it, but the kid I was shadowing was very nice and this was his income I would be messing with. I was polite and stuck it out. Not so much when I got back to the office.

It has happened to about 10 people I am friends with. I think I'm the only one that had 9 hours of door-to-door torture though.

Walked out of a job once. Burned that bridge with a molotov cocktail and didn't give a frick.

I walked out of 1 interview in the BR school district.
The principal spent 10 minutes down playing my experience trying to state that I was basically a rookie teacher, bc I had not worked for her or in her school. She hinted that I would need to "monitor" students during state testing to make sure they were marking answers in the "correct portion of the test". She also right out stated that I would most likely not be effective at her school, bc I was not black and most of there students were. At about the 15 minute mark, I stated that it seemed that I was not the candidate she was looking for and told her to have a nice day.

I reported her to the teacher's union after the interview. She was fired and stripped of her licence less than a year later for multiple reasons. Apparently, some of the white teachers she inherited were having trouble with her as well. I feel fine with my decision, but this was an extreme case. Normally, I would finish the interview and not accept the job if an offer came.

Also, I'll add that I've had other interviews that I knew I wouldn't accept and stuck them out.

This was different because they intentionally mislead me. They didn't deserve my respect.

Had a guy walk out of a technical interview because he couldn't do it. He said he already had a lead offer and he was going to take it so he's just going to go. His name is now shamed throughout the city of Baton Rouge as a total douche because of it.

Same thing happened to me in Dallas. Except we ate lunch at CiCis with the boss...and had to run from building security a couple times. It was an adventure but I was pissed about the total waste of time it was. They actually offered me the job....I wouldn't return their calls.

We randomly get pegged by HR at our company to interview people for random positions.

I had a female interviewee end an interview earlier because she had misread the job title/description. She was very nice and open about the mistake and we had a laugh and she went on her way.

No hard feelings.

It was for a position in IT and she had quite literally no IT background. When I asked her about her server migration experience she looked at me like I was speaking Mandarin

Me too. I walked out before the interview and they left me a voicemail that night saying they had a job offer for me and would still be interested in speaking with me about it.

I still laugh out loud about that day. What a hilarious experience.

I didn't just get up and walk out, but we both agreed I was way overqualified for the position and it was pointless to continue the interview.

Did that twice.....

Waiting tables, worked a big table with someone else went home with $13 in tips, showed up to work the next day and the gm said I took home too much and that I owe them $15. Tried to explain how stupid their logic was and ended up throwing a couple dollar bills in her face and walking out.

Second time, working retail, won some award that included additional special employee discount during a specified time period. Come to find out that discount doesn't apply to sale items and everything in the store was on sale throughout that time period. Threw my name tag in the assistant managers face and walked out. Store went out of business within a year.

Never done it. Just curious. Thinking of like a situation where you've got tons of experience but it's just a slap in the face for what the company offers you

Your not hitting on a good reason. I think the only way a normal person would leave in the middle of an interview would be that they are offered a different job than the one they applied for. I've heard of people applying for manager positions and in the interview they say the manager position was filled but they have a less important, less paying job they can offer. A friend of mine had this happen to them but they politely apologized, didn't accept the job, and left.
