I'd like to see the ISS take one of these cameras up in space to see how well it would do. Here on earth, it captures the stars and milky way in real time, not by extended exposure.

There are several reason why, including the density of the stars in an ever expanding finite universe, light pollution and camera exposure.

More importantly, the sensor and how it processes the information. First, you need a very fast lens, second, you need an extremely sensitive sensor that can can get into the range of 2 Million+ ISO. In order to do that, the sensor has to have a very large pixel pitch, and then you have the problems of transferring the data from all those available photons to the processor before it's replaced by new information at the frame rate and shutter speeds of video, since the pixel size is so large on the CMOS. Of course, in space, you also have to deal with rapid degeneration of the CMOS. That's going to be a real problem sending guys to Mars. Eventually, while they may live on Mars, their cameras' sensors will eventually deteriorate from radiation until becoming unusable.

Obviously the Earth is flat. You should see the "secret" maps the airlines use to make fake long haul flights.

I know very well how exposure works, and that the cameras being used in space don't have the dynamic range to see a bright object and still be able to pick up the stars. That probably changes in the near future.

By government regulation, all earth photos must be taken from the "Dark Side" studio at Patterson Air Force base, Hanger 13. That studio has no stars painted on the ceiling, as they cause emotional distress with the alien spaceman who also resides in Hanger 13.
