26, 24, & 22 here. All grown, successful, great careers, have given me two beautiful grandchildren - and I miss them every day. I do remember the "getting on my last nerve" days, but I'd trade a year off the end of my life to have a few more weeks with them home. All a matter of perspective, I guess. Hang in there - it's worth it!

Yes...today was one of those days. Every last thread of my patience was tested. Just an example...

My 5 year old daughter cried for 25 minutes because her soccer socks were "too tight". Hint: her soccer socks are not too tight - she just does not like the seam touching her toes.

I ran her out on the practice field with no socks at all until she came and asked to put them on...

Got two boys at 3 and 1. It's like they plan amongst themselves to see how close to insanity they can push me. Especially now they are at that stage where they work together on getting into trouble

5 and 3 year old girls

Man...believe it or not, these are the halcyon days. You get 12 maybe 13 years when they are sweet little girls. When daddy is everything. Those hugs and kisses are the sweetest things ever.

“Daddy, give me a hug.”
“Daddy, sing me a lullaby”
“Daddy, watch me do this dance I made up”

And you blink. And then they are growing up. And you blink again and they are hardly little girls anymore. And you blink once more and the change is upon them.

Cherish this now, with all the frustrations, and make the strongest bonds you can, be their biggest hero, let them know daddy is there for them no matter what, because what’s to come makes whatever is bothering you now seem like a day at the beach.

Teenage girls are the cruelest creatures on the planet

Of course, frustration is normal and you deal with it.

But I also had a kick in the nuts lesson on life when one of my sons died.

I now have perspective how precious life is. Frustration will happen but end each day knowing every moment you get with your kids is a blessing no matter the struggles associated.

Man, my heart breaks for you. The sound of a parent’s wail I still hear to this day, and I can’t imagine a more mournful cry. The wrenching pain from the deepest pit of your soul of the thing that should never be.

The unnaturalness of a parent burying a child, especially at a young age. I felt it enough with my brother. I can’t comprehend the depths of pain a parent would feel.

You have my sympathy

Absolutely; just wait till they are a little older.

At those ages they are just aggravating, in a few years they’ll be spiteful and pick fights. But the great times will still outweigh the bad.
