I wanted to find some music, but Birmingham sucks for music and I stopped in at The Atomic Lounge. Awesome bar and I had an amazing cocktail called the Sex Panther. They even gave me a fake tattoo for it.

I used to travel for work a lot and ended up here one night in Birmingham. One of my favorite random bars that I've stumbled into. I went in early (around 7:30ish) and was one of the few people there at the time. I talked with the bartender and he made me a cocktail with rye whiskey called the Toronto. Still one of my favorite drinks to this day.

Also, I'm 29, married, with no kids. But this is definitely what happens every time I think I'm cool and go out .

During my college days and 20's I went out by myself frequently and always had a great time, but I wasn't socially awkward like the OP. Does anything say loser like being a guy and asking a waitress for a Sexual Volcano???

But the lounge was packed with people all talking to each other. I just walked around sipping my drink until I finished it. Never found a moment to talk to anyone, so I left.

Now...in true autist form, I had read a few articles prior to leaving about going out by yourself. I found a few talking about how much fun it can be to go out alone.

So I didn't give up. Went to a place called Side Bar and stood around for a bit. Didn't order anything because the place was lame. Didn't talk to any one and left after a short time.

Wandered over to a place called Nana Funks - it was starting to get late at this point. This place was a bit more lively. I ordered a drink and walked around people watching for a bit. Found a dance floor and a rather ugly fat girl started trying to dance with me. I tried moving away from her and she said "You're no fun!" Then she rubbed her big butt into my crotch and I thought, "What the frick am I doing" and left.

Got home a little after 11 and turned on The Irishman. Felt comfortable and happy watching a movie instead of being out in that shite.

What were you looking for? Are you missing something in life?

Going to a bar alone doesn’t have to be as pathetic as you made it.

Go find a dive neighborhood bar where you can sit, chat and watch a game or just listen to the music the drink bachelorette party plays. It’s okay to just sit and unwind and relax. You don’t always have to have human or physical interaction.

I’ve had several experiences like this, but most times when I go out by myself it’s nothing like this, and I have a great time.

Just because YOU'RE a loser doesn't mean going out for a drink by yourself and seeing a band is "loserish". Enjoy your mundane life of 2.5 kids and wife who doesn't blow you anymore, nerd.

I love going to bars by myself.

I've got two neighborhood joints at which I feel perfectly comfortable posting up by myself. One is a little more upscale if I'm feeling fancy, the other is a complete dive. Both have great food. The classier place, everyone leaves me alone. The dumpier place, there's always a townie wanting to buy me a whiskey and asking me to help pick numbers for Keno. Both are awesome in their own right.

I just like hanging out with myself sometimes.
