Just got off the phone with buddy working at Dow. Said safety came running through the unit yelling for everyone to get out now. Turned off the turnstiles so everyone could bail quickly. Guys running over each other to leave. Stuck in a massive cluster now trying to get out of the parking lot.

Anyone have any more info?

A company I used to work for supplied a shite ton of "blast resistant" shelter in place type buildings for emergencies and explosions to the DOW Plaquemine plant. Glad to hear they are being put to use

PLAQUEMINE - DOW was evacuated shortly after 3 p.m. due to an emergency situation in the plant, WBRZ learned Friday.

Sources said there was a potential chemcial leak at the facility and workers were being sent away from the facilty.

A phone line at the plant in Iberville Parish was busy when WBRZ attempted to call the plant Friday afternoon.

WBRZ has a crew headed to the scene. Check this story for updates and watch WBRZ News 2 at 4:00 for a live report.

I wonder if it has anything to do with benzine plant starting up. I know that was supposed to happen around this time.

Yikes!!!

I'm glad I decided to stay out of plants for my career. My dad worked at BASF for 30 years, and I've grateful, but I also have an uncle dying from cancer and a cousin that was burned severely at the CF explosions 15 years ago.

Power2 and 3 plants tripped. Whole plant going into shutdown.

That's the cause. Can't confirm any leaks or fires
