The European Parliament has voted for a complete ban on a range of single-use plastics across the union in a bid to stop pollution of the oceans.

MEPs backed a ban on plastic cutlery and plates, cotton buds, straws, drink-stirrers and balloon sticks.

The proposal also calls for a reduction in single-use plastic for food and drink containers like plastic cups. One MEP said, if no action was taken, "by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans".

Single use plastic is stupid. I don't hear any other plans for our trash problems. All I read is trashing these types of laws. I would be interested in hearing what the Right has for a plan.

I'm conservative. I hate government control increasing. But yeah there's a lot of fricking trash all over the place.

I get their idea, but Asia and Africa will continue their wholesale dumping of plastic into the ocean

Before getting overly carried away with their virtue signaling via laws, they should have a sit down with Asia. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I read somewhere that Asia is responsible for around 70% of the plastic in the oceans.

guns dont kill people, a crazy person with a gun kills people

trash doesnt magically appear in the ocean, these countries barge their trash out into the ocean and dump it there because its cheaper then recycling it.

take your righteous indignation and shove it because the problem is whats in the trash but what they do with the trash that is the problem.

i notice you hypocritically said absolutely nothing about the real issue is them dumping tons of trash in the ocean every day

I think this is a good start.

We need to stop exporting it to Asia and South America as well (which would be a minor portion of their supply, but still). They just throw in the ocean and at an insane rate.

frick people who litter.

Wrong.

If the trash they dumped was biodegradable it would be a different issue.

I think you have schizophrenia or something. Your thoughts are consistently bizarre and ridiculous...and you staunchly defend them. Not to mention, you are usually very wrong.

I keep thinking you're a troll, but I think you're just mentally "not all there".

This is a good example. This is very wrong.

Sure, dumping trash in the ocean is bad, but dumping plastics is a lot worse than other materials. If they removed a large % of the plastic from the ocean trash, it would be an incredible improvement.

You should see the rivers in China.

All the cities and villages inland use the rivers as a garbage dump and it flows out into the oceans. Its beyond unbelievable. Its horrific. Sewage and trash combine to form massive bodies of waste that will outlive us all in the oceans.

The Yangtze River puts 1.5 MILLION TONS of plastic into the ocean EVERY YEAR.

Can we keep guns away from this guy? This might be a call for help.

Mercury and plastics are in/getting into the food chain. We can do better for our kids, this is one of those ways.

Hopefully, gods have mercy when China and India go on the march.

ETA: Not like a world march thing but we'll see a mass of people on the Asian continent that will give Zhukov's corpse wood.
