Got 2-3 stones in right kidney. Noticed them only because one episode of blood in pee. No pain. They are NOT in the ureter. they are just in the kidney. whispering on xray and CT scan, "anyday now bitch."

I've had stones before. One passed on its own 3mm. But the other was beyond an ESWL. It was 1cm and blocking. So I've had the laser and basket with a stent placed after.

Saw my urologist today. he will call me after he gets KUB xray report. but he thinks ESWL. I am listening to him. Just coming here for first hand lithotripsy experience. The stent I had after previous procedure sucked, and I pissed blood for a solid week. I ASSUME this is an easier post op course.

Again, I can Google, and I am a nurse. But I only see idiots or bad examples in my experiences in the ER. Or only the negative outcomes. Old guys who probably weren't off their blood thinners long enough.

Lithotripsy is the best invention since air conditioning or running water. Recovery is simple. A little soreness and blood in urine the first couple of times.

You mean pissings or you've had multiple lithotripsies?

I'd be curious what type of holmium laser your URO has access to. There's really nice ones out there and some really POS too.

I'd lean towards taking his suggestion of ESWL. But I wouldn't have any reservation asking him/her why they are pushing ESWL over laser lithotripsy.

Disclaimer: I sell all of the stuff you mentioned except for ESWL machines.

Eswl is a good procedure in the right setting. Things to consider is stone size, density, location in the kidney, etc.

Laser lithitripsy is an excellent surgery that is less dependent on stone characteristics.

There are plus and minus to either, and much more information would need to be known to give any true recommendation.

3 stones. Right kidney. Largest is 6mm. But all in kidney/renal pelvis. Uro said if KUB can see it ESWL can hit it. None are obstructive and none near ureter.

Just had lithotripsy last week. One stone around a cm in my right kidney. Everything went well but one of the pieces got stuck passing and caused a jam up. I got so sick from the pain I was vomiting all over the place. They went in and inserted a stint and flushed my system the other day. Hurt to pee for like 3 days but everything is moving along nicely now

I had a huge one three years ago--

Three surgeries--first one for a stint, second one to remove the stone and they went in and out 13 times. The third surgery was to remove the stint.

The pain after second surgery when I took a piss was the worst ever. I finally passed a clot I guess and relieved pain. I feel you and this was hell for me.

Um, It depends.

The ESWL will save you the pain of going in with a holmium fiber, but because you have had a stone before, your ureter should already be dilated. Sounds crazy but after passing a stone or having a stint placement before, It makes the 2nd go round much less painful and easier for the stone to pass.

With that said, you say you have a 6mm??

I mean, I've seen people pass stones that big, but they're few and far between.

You will more than likely still get a double J stint after the ESWL procedure with a 6mm stone.

The reason I'm assuming he's gonna go with the ESWL, is because your stone is in the northern pole. It is very hard to reach a stone that high with a flexible ureteral scope.

Best thing is to hope the ESWL works, and he doesn't have to do a percutaneous nephrolithotripsy.

You need to start drinking more water, and stay away from cokes.

Yeah when they put the stint in they kept having to do that the doc told me because the stones were so compacted in my system. They basically flushed them all out and my stomach feels like I did a million sit ups, from all the spasms.

Now just trying to pass the few pieces that were left up in my kidney, 6mm and 8mm respectively plus some smaller pieces

Oh God, man I'm sorry for you right now. I've had them 5 times and live with an absolute fear of another one...that initial twinge of pain in my back before it starts to spread. The pain is indescribable and unmistakable.

That's the bitch of it. I am not diet coke guy. They are disgusting and unhealthy. If I am going to treat myself, I have one real coke/soda per day. But not really daily. I live with a tervis or contigo full of water with lemon or lime.

I had lithotripsy a few years ago. I experienced minimal pain throughout the whole ordeal. The lithotripsy procedure would get a little uncomfortable but they would administer pain meds if I needed them. After the procedure I pissed blood a few times and passed the stones a few days later.
