I've seen plenty of arguments that end at privilege means wealth.

Not really a good analogy. There really are cops and cashiers out there who don't like black people so it's reasonable for a black person who has such an experience to wonder

You know what they say about assumptions.

I just wish black people would judge me by the content of my character and not the color, or lack there of, of my skin.

Then he'll flash out a bunch of hundreds and then everyone will float right towards him. Plus your hypothetical is absurd.

But I'm not sure why you'd think white privilege ONLY pertains to wealth.

Because wealth = power. Power gives you privilege regardless of skin color. The most powerful person on earth right now is a black man. He has the money and industry of the United States backing him up.

This kid comes from the 1% so I doubt he knows anything about what blacks from south Atlanta go through on a daily basis.

It wasn't my hypothetical.

Your hypothetical scenario was adding to mine that no one would know who he was. That is impossible, at least in America and most of Europe.

This dude is a college kid, who knows how much his money his Dad is giving him now. Not to mention if you don't know him, you have no clue that he's rich most likely, so again, I just think it's wayyyyyyy naive to think privilege ONLY means wealth.

Ok...then that would make your hypothetical absurd. If you know the black guy is famous, that ruins your entire hypothetical. You shoulda made it 2 random people, rich black dude, poor white guy. Otherwise, you realize your hypothetical doesn't fit at all, right? Kanye isn't being treated better because he's rich, but rather because he's famous.

That shite spreads pretty quickly around campus when your father is worth tens of millions of dollars. It doesn't matter how much his family was giving him. If he was being treated so badly, do you think his father would put up with this shite? No, he would have transferred, instead of staying there for 8 fricking years.

From what he and the president are saying, this simply doesn't add up. Humans do not act in this manner, especially when they elect 5 black people out of 9 members of student government, the president who also happens to be gay. No way in hell would a largely racist and bigoted campus do that. Plus no pictures of the shite swastika, especially in an age where everyone has a camera on them at all times. They will be discovered within the week of having made all this up, as well as his "hunger strike", and everyone involved in this is going to look like a bunch of buffoons.

The point of the scenario is that everyone knows the guy is rich, and they know that the white guy is an average joe. There's no way a descent portion of the other students didn't know who this guy's father was. Guys whose parents are worth that much on an SEC Campus (save Vandy) will have a reputation in some way that precedes them.

I think your assumptions are so far off base.

Missouri has like 35000 students on campus. I'm pretty certain the vast majority of the campus had zero clue who this dude was before all this started.

I'm not really arguing any of these points, they may all have merit. I'm just saying privilege isn't solely tied to wealth. And even if it is in, someone could be doing so in good faith to try and help others. Does that dude fit this mold? I Have no idea.

It's a major factor. Being wealthy opens up smaller, more exclusive social circles that can open doors to places the vast majority of Americans will never have access to. That is the very definition of the word privilege.

Your initial posts insinuated, or flat out said it was basically only wealth.

The term "white privilege" also encompasses a lot more than just that, getting into prejudices and things like that.

My point is when he's hanging out with people, they will likely quickly find out through the grapevine exactly who he is. When he started the publicity stunt of starving himself, then everyone on campus should have known who his dad was within the week. It's just ridiculous to think he should be forcing anyone to talk about being privileged.
