When Happy Days had a big reunion a few yrs ago, she was the only cast member who did not show. Can understand why, now. Hard to imagine she ran out of money with all the money that show brought in, especially when syndicated.

First Aaron Hernandez, now Joanie. It's been a tough week.

Many actors of that era did not receive payment for syndicated episodes. I saw her on some show talking about it. Many of the cast members from Happy Days all sued for pay from royalties.

You do realize that some stars get 3 year syndication deals some 5 years. Some get $100 a month. Not everyone gets Friends and Seinfeld money.

Zero royalties was pretty standard for the day, many of the actors on those sitcoms were unknown, it was their first steady paying job, and they were more than happy to get just that. William Shatner and the original Star Trek cast also received nothing for syndication re-runs, or merchandising. Shatner was homeless for a while after the original series ended and made money by appearing at local parties as Capt. Kirk.

1971 is the key year. If your show ended that year or earlier, you got paid for a few syndication runs, then nothing. This happened to the shows that were axed in the "Hillbilly Massacre" of '71, such as Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, and Mayberry RFD.

If your series ran after 1971, you got permanent residuals. They get smaller and smaller over time, but at least you get something.

I know they sued b/c of some slot machines for casinos that used their images.

Honestly its not so sad to me that some older miserable looking lady died.

However it makes me sad to think a young happy-go-lucky Joanie has died.
