yep... people who paid the $40-$50 or whatever it was for the PPV in 1998 got left with the bad taste in their mouth of
A) last seeing the Hogan/Warrior rematch that was... to be nice... not good
B) obviously missed the main event of DDP/Goldberg b/c of WCW's error

WCW was so awesome. I don't understand how WWF-WWE beat them in the ratings department
when Vince Russo took over as main booker... it went to shite real, real fast
some of the stuff he was doing made Nitro in those late years almost completely unwatchable
also... at points... the inmates were almost literally running the asylum

I almost want to go on the WWEN and find the '98 Havoc just to see if that DDP/Goldberg match is on the tape
I'm sure it is though

Foley going through the top of the cage and then off the cage, through the announcers table was something I will never forget. Nothing on WCW I can remember compares to that.

Yeah they are talking about their reign as #1 with the nwo. WWE eventually got it back and wcw got stale.

no... what's amazing is the amount of guys who could never break through to the top of the WCW card yet was instrumental in WWF/E eventually overtaking them
Undertaker
HHH
"Stone Cold" Steve Austin
Mick Foley
Ron Simmons (yes I know he was WCWWHC)
I'm sure there were more

Again, the acts got stale. Characters were stupid. Stone cold was hugely popular and they were pushing the edge with dx and girls like sable.
Great example with Austin. Made him a dude from California but he had a thick Texas accent. And wcw just never let him breakthrough.

No doubt WCW had a loaded roster....but they couldn’t manage all that talent. It didn’t help Nash and Hall were able to run the bookings. They took care of the top tier and the lower card talent never had a chance. Jericho is a good example. WWF storylines in the mid to late 90’s were great entertainment. They pushed cable content to the edge.

My theory is....
Vince McMahon paid Russo to be "fired" then go to WCW and ruin it. He then paid him to make sure TNA never took off.

Monday Night Wars were an amazing time to be a kid
wrestling still seems to be doing well from what the TV contracts look like, but I wonder why its not as mainstream as it was back in the 80s through late 90s. The stars back then were pretty much pop culture figures, just seems like its a much more niche audience than it used to be.

Nitro vs Raw into 1998 was the best live TV pro wrestling will ever produce. Ever since Vince bought them off if has been a steady decline to the point they just rung up the worst Raw rating in the history of the show. I always wished that TNA would get organized but now Vince has set up NXT to poach any decent talent.
I hope All In is a success.

I watched mostly WCW, but the Attitude Era was some must see TV and gradually found myself tuning mostly to USA on Monday nights.
Also, even though they were a short lived stable, the Corporate Ministry had the best entrance music ever. I freaked out the first time they came out. LINK
Ahhh to be 13 again.
