Any ER professionals care to comment?

How the hell is this allowed and why isn’t discipline and legal recourse uses more often here?

K
This tends to happen as drug use increases amongst the population.

This is because they have more mental patients, it’s a growing problem that no one is really addressing, purple gowns.

That's what happens when you have to wait 4 hours just to get charged $2,500 for a bandaid and a Tylenol.

Well this sounds like an injury that didn’t require someone to use EMERGENCY services now does it?

Sounds like you don’t have a real emergency then, are the reason there is a 4 hour wait and should GONE TO YOUR frickING PRIMARY CARE

no. this is what happens when people come in on meth/opiods and have to be sedated. thus occupying an ER bed for 4-6 hours and preventing other people from coming back and being treated. these patients can't be admitted upstairs. psych patients result in the same outcome.

Or even worse cause they can tie up a bed for a day (or days) as they wait for a bed to open up at an inpatient psych facility.

Can I guess that this has correlation to a rise in drug use?

Pain levels are still treated like the 5th vital sign and patient satisfaction is now treated like the 6th vital sign.

Coworker of mine was an ER nurse for years and she left the ER shortly after another nurse in her department lost her baby cause a patient had kicked her in the stomach....she was 7 months pregnant. Don’t know how the hospital responded....the incident itself happened several years ago.

I am a primary care provider. We were recently told that we must start weaning people off of their benzos if they’re already on opiates. They will basically be given a choice as to which drug they’d like to keep. While I completely agree that people should not be on both, primary care offices are about to be a complete shite show. I also expect to see these behaviors in our practice.

If all you need is a bandaid and a Tylenol, why the hell are you in the ER?

Beds take up too much room so you can’t have as many.

They should increase capacity with Naugahyde Lazy-boys. Put 8-10 in a room where there used to be a bed.

It’s currently a hot topic in the ER community (doctors, nurses, etc.). Statistically healthcare personnel are more likely to get assaulted than police officers, which to me is an astounding fact. We put up with a lot of abuse that people in other private sectors would never dream of accepting. There needs to be push back, and more doctors/nurses need to start pressing charges against patients who resort to violence.

Very much on the rise, Texas now makes it a felony to assault medical personnel.

Friendly reminder that attacking hospital staff, especially doctors and nurses is considered a federal offense.

Plan accordingly, junkies.
