Growing up I actively worked on not giving into the racism I was surrounded by. But the shite that happens these days makes it hard to keep that going.

I once attended a Hispanic wedding reception. Apparently the bride and groom were completely unaware that the owner/bitch that owned the place hated Mexicans. At some point after the cake had been cut and the dancing began she decided it was time to get rid of them, and proceeded to yank the extension cord out of the wall powering the DJ booth. Her husband also began throwing breakers to kill the power to other parts of the venue. Needless to say all fricking hell broke loose.

This describes myself, as well. I pretty much grew up as trailer trash surrounded by male adults who literally hated black people. I refused to pass that hate on to my own children, and I’ve always tried to treat everyone without regard to their skin color. It’s tough, at times, to maintain that with the things I see every day. On a positive note, I haven’t experienced any of the nonsense of the last 3-4 years personally, so I TRY not to be swayed.
