They changed it up differently. The handbook is digital and so is all the design manuals

PE was harder, hands down, not even close.

As a PE for over 23 years, I don't agree with the new policy of allowing Interns to take the PE before the 4 years of working under a professional engineer.

And it's working under a PE for 3 years if you have a masters.

4 years for Bachelors
3 years for Masters (which you tack on 1-2 more years of school) or I guess you work during day and attend school at night.

If one passes the FE exam in Louisiana, are you eligible to take the PE exam?

In Civil, you have to work under a PE for 4 years before taking PE.

the in LA now are you can take the PE as soon as you pass the FE, but still need the experience under a PE to get your PE license.

what many of you dont understand is you get a Professional engineers license. you dont get a civil license or a mechanical license. But you do agree to a code of ethics that you only over see projects that are within your area of expertise.

FE wasn't bad. PE for Petroleum was absolutely one of the most miserable things I've ever experienced.

I thought the FE was harder. Covered a broader range of material

School of PE is the way. First half of the PE I aced, second half I walked out wondering when I could take it again because I bombed it (apparently this is a common feeling walking out).

I passed both, I did civil in morning and structures afternoon.

Graduated 1996. Took PE in 2002.

FE was a breeze at end of Sr year.
PE for ChE was tough. Passed on 2nd try.
Once the letter with the P comes, you never really think about it ever again.

I keep hearing rumors the industry is going to move to requiring the SE exam for structurals working over a certain height building- NY is leaning in that direction. The SE is beyond brutal though, last I checked it had like a 20% pass rate, and it's 16 hours of fun.

Electrical Power
The PE was harder, but neither I would consider hard. I can see someone maybe saying the FE was hard if they didn’t take it while still in or just finished college.

Thought the FE was quite easy. Never got to PE, never needed it. I could imagine the longer you get from college, FE gets much much harder as the breadth covers everything.

Of course I hear now all the requirements for PE are no more and you can take it without even having any experience at all...seems to not make sense to me but I digress. Maybe I'm wrong, but back when I graduated, you needed like 5 years experience and 3 or 4 PE's to sign off on you before you could take it if I remember correctly.

From acquaintances, I've heard the PE was easier than FE.
