Woman here. I think a simple, good quality ring sans diamond is the way to go. Won’t attract the wrong attention and not so heart-stopping if it’s gets lost. Spend the rest on high-quality gold coins and buy a new one each anniversary.

Why would you want gold coins over a beautiful ring?

He’s paying for it
The etiquette is that it’s acceptable now for women to pick out/have say in their ring
I know my ring will be better than anything he’d have bought because it doesn’t exist

Because it shows me my future spouse has a better head on his shoulders than to cave to social pressure and overspend on a bauble of extremely fluctuating value that attracts unwanted attention.

I want something beautiful on my hand forever

Agreed- If you’re going simple, you must go quality.

This is mine but it’ll be round. They forgot when making the renderings

Pfft, I want someone that worked in shitty conditions or maybe shed a little blood to bring a tiny little gemstone up to put on my woman's finger. At least give me a little environmental catastrophe in the making for that little rock.

Did you tell her that?

Do you hide them in your mattress or in a buried jar?

I got lucky with mine in that I could have proposed with a Cracker Jack ring and she’d have said yes. She deserved better than that though. And she didn’t care that it wasn’t mined anyway.

If you are looking at it in terms of investment.. Gold will hold its value.. Maybe even go up at some point and if you ever need to sell something then you could actually make a profit.
Diamonds depreciate. They are sort of like vehicles. As soon as you buy it and put it on your hand the value decreases and you would only be able to sell it for maybe half of what it was bought for.

Get a real diamond. Go to a website like Blue Nile to educate yourself. Bigger is not better if it’s dull. Cut, color and clarity are the most important things to look at.

So you think two identical stones will be thousands different in price because one is a 2010 model and the other is a 2019?

Used wedding rings don’t sell well
