Let me get this straight. ITT, you have:
1. Admitted that we are our own greatest threat on this planet.
2. Denied that there is any need to colonize elsewhere because we are a threat to ourselves.
3. Declared that technology has not advanced past the 1970's era STS design capabilities, despite the chart in the OP clearly showing that we have blown that hideously politically compromised, yet still historic, design into the weeds.

NASA always had shite salesman. The powers that be used the waning interest as told by tv ratings to let idiots in DC neuter their budget and mission. Had they just found a way to sell all the innovation that came about from the space program to the public we would have all of these things.
Diapers, Microwaves not to mention all the benefits of satellite technology are just some of the few. We really really fricked that up. but hey! every poor in this country gets a free iphone!
