Elf on the shelf seems like one of those things parents do for other parents and likes. So ive never considered participating.

Yeah... but I reckon the kids enjoy it too. My kids would have been pissed to have some commie spy in the house.

It's not. The kids love looking for the elf and seeing what he got up to/put himself. My son said he's sad for Christmas to get here soon, because it means the elf goes away.

My cousins did elf on a shelf when they were children. They're in their forties now.

it’s worth it each morning to see my daughters wake up excited to see where he is. It’s the first thing they do.

I used to be anti-elf prior to having kids. Now, when I see my kids lose their minds in the morning, I get it. Yeah, I forget some nights, but it ain't hard to move an elf around the house. We don't get fancy in our positioning of the elf.

I'm glad my child is now too old for the elf.

I remember waking up at 3am in a cold sweat because I forgot to move the elf before going to bed.

My daughter cried when she found out the Elf wasn't real...

It was fun when they were young, until you forgot to move that bastard...

I usually took the blame like I must have touched him and therefore he lost his Christmas magic. Helps reinforce the no touch rule. I usually have some glitter and candy sprinkles on hand and we give it a shake or 3 over his head to get him “fixed”.

My 3rd child turned 10 this year and the older ones already lost the appeal. I usually just do it for him to get a laugh in the morning. Probably be his last run at our place though.

Miss those early days when they came out of their rooms with bed head and festive jammies in amazement what Jack Frost had done next.
