OK. So your argument is that there’s no going back? You may be right. But if that’s your argument, say, “There are too many guns to bother with gun control. We flooded the market, and we’ll never keep 300 million guns in responsible hands so why try? We’re fricked. Our best hope is to shoot first before we’re shot.”

My argument is that gun control only controls guns in the hands of people who obey the law. You would be disarming the populace leaving you with a large criminal element with a major advantage.
That and this thing called the Constitution which says you can take your gun control and shove it directly up your arse.

Back to my point that if this were true, gangs would have much better weaponry than what you can buy at your local gun show.
Why aren’t our US gangs armed like those in El Salvador? Is it because our law enforcement can be effective at limiting access to those weapons?

Just so we’re clear, your evidence for supporting broad gun control is the lack of RPGs used in gang warfare?

That’s my argument for disproving the whole “government regulation cannot possibly work” argument.

Didn’t occur to government to just stop the gang activity since, you know, they are so good at stopping criminal activity and all?

I can recognize that the government is not 100% effective. Can you recognize that government policy and law enforcement can be somewhat effective?
Is government policy responsible for limiting gang’s weaponry? If the answer is yes, it stands to reason that it could be effective limiting gun access. The only thing standing in their way is public will, consent of the governed. We’ve drawn the line at RPG’s. Maybe it’s time to move the line a little.

There are some criminals that know about me - mostly from exes - and the only thing stopping them from breaking into my home is the fact that they know that I'd turn their heads into canoes.

You’ve predicated your argument on the assumption that the only thing keeping a gang from using an rpg is government regulation.
I can think of numerous reasons why gangs would not care or want to use rpgs.

NY Post has some additional stories.
Some pics of the victims, which is heartbreaking.
A little more on the shooter. Supposedly worked at a FF joint and quit a month ago. Didn't talk with co-workers. Bought the guns on his 18th birthday. Tagged some stranger with some of his posts, presumably for attention or ?
LINK
Speculation: he had issues brewing for a long time. Worked at the Wendy's long enough to save the money to buy the guns, then quit. Maybe he was obsessed with this stranger and figured the only way he could get her (?) attention was to do something which would make national news? (No idea of anything about this stranger he tagged, other than that they posted his messages after the shooting occurred. Which ironically validated his goals (?) that they acknowledged his existence. Just spit balling. Why he shot his grandmother first, then went on the rampage is unknown, except to say that he was a fricken nutcase.
This was one of the verified pictures of him.
At this point, since Congress has zero problems of sending $40B+ to Ukraine, and countless billions elsewhere, suggest they spend it on hardening schools, arguably to include at least one armed guard/policeman at all times when students are present and as many armed teachers as are comfortable with carrying. They certainly spare no expense protecting themselves, so how about spending a few bucks on everyone else's kids? I do think requiring classes for new owners between 18 and 21 is reasonable. Swift and sure punishment for anyone using firearms in the commission of any violent crime. Set an expectation that anyone using a firearm the wrong way will end up dead or in jail.
I'd like to see this freak's interactions torn apart by people without agendas, just to understand what makes them tick. Too many committees, commissions and researchers seem to always generate conclusions that agree with whoever funds the study, along with the obligatory "more study is needed" / employment for life addenda.
Precrime intervention is Orwellian and counter to freedom, so trying to avoid that while living in a virtual panopticon is necessary. One can see a few big data companies salivating at the prospect of using this as an entree into social credit scoring as a means of identifying these monsters. It's going to require some careful thought and reflection, but in the meantime, putting an armed presence in every school seems to be a reasonable start.
Panopticon sidebar LINK Creepy last wish.

I'd be ok with requiring a hunter's safety type course for anyone that wants to buy a firearm. I did it and it taught me a lot.
I also agree that anyone that's caught using a firearm illegally needs to have the weight of justice brought down on them.

We are turning him into a household name and a celebrity, giving him exactly what he wants and insuring there will be many more school shootings in the future.
Why are we so stupid to continue to reward this evil?!?

I just told you... bc there aren't millions of RPGs already in circulation and the manufacturers cannot legally sell them to the public.
It's the same as automatic weapons. Once they were outlawed there were no others brought into the country legally (or sold domestically)... which is why they're so damn expensive. You can still legally own a fully automatic weapon if you can find one that was grandfathered in years ago and file the appropriate paperwork with the ATF.

IMO that is the major issue at hand. These criminals are arrested over and over and let back out onto the streets.
I heard the mayor of NYC rambling on about gun control after the subway shooting. Mfer your DA is the one that let him back out. Keep the career criminals locked up and you'll reduce crime.

Agreed. That way we can have highly trained mass murderers instead of the posers running around now.

Why does the firearm have to be a qualifier for swift and sure punishment? Does violent crime without the use of a gun not bother you that much?

Well for starters it would freak everyone the frick out and the public who used to tolerate the gang activity as a part of life in the hood would cease to look the other way.
Not to mention gang killing are usually targeted and done only with permission from gang leaders. It isn’t a war zone. It’s an enterprise.
Posted on 5/25/22 at 4:12 am to terd ferguson
Using an RPG would force most DA's to prosecute.

Cliffs update?
The story of him shooting his grandma then the mom at the school + her students still holds? Or is that one of the early rumors that was not real.
Trying to catch up on the news, but it seems like it’s either a political debate now or gun law debate mixed in with a little mental health.
