There have always been dummies who will stare at the sun. That poor Oklahoma farmer back in 1908 wound up almost completely blind.

Still interesting to see just how many people missed the point of the thread. I guess they're just too lazy to read, much less click a link.

ANYTHING to get more clicks and likes.

Even if "clicks and likes" didn't exist, right?

the fervor over this has been so over the top it has been quite comical.
The guy for Fox Weather on location in Dallas literally cried live on TV. My wife said it best... why is that Homo crying?

THere are a lot of clowns in this world.
This event means nothing and watching it will teach no one anything that will help advance hunmanity.
It is a complete waste of time.
Wow...so everything you do absolutely must help humanity? What a clown.
Im not saying that, but it sure does show everyone peoples what priorities are.
Its kind of sad.

idiots who think that this signals the end of days
My crazy aunt somehow brought a bible verse (Eziekel 4:8 or some shite) into this. My crazy uncle believes in flat earth and chemtrails. Yes, I'm one of the few sane people in my bloodline. Also one of the few that's educated past high school.

How so? What would you do differently? How would you prefer people to treat what is, to some, a once or twice in a lifetime event that they can actually easily observe without having to fly somewhere else?
What specifically would you prefer for them to prioritize during the couple of hours that they spend looking at the eclipse?

Tell the class what you did during the hour or so of eclipse time. Did you do something to better the world? Cure cancer? Kill a terrorist? Catch an important part of a plane about to fall off right before takeoff?
Or did you just decide to hang out on an anonymous message board and shite all over something that a whole lot of people chose to enjoy?

I recall as a young lad reading the Classic's Illustrated version of "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court.", and the main character being able to stop the crowd from killing him because he recalled that a Solar eclipse just happened to be occurring at that time, in that place (he had been transported back in time to medieval England).
I always found be able to recall something like that was a bit unbelievable.
But then again it's about a guy who time travels so...

True, because there’s also papers, viewership and advertisement, magazines, subscriptions, and Patreon to make money on. Just keep em whopped up in a frenzy and glued to your every word.

I felt this way. Reluctantly went out to the "party" the company had.
Then it happened. Was a wonderful experience and instantly regretted not making it a thing with my kiddos.

Not really much different than 100+ years ago.

No, nothing has changed. Even though we think we’re smarter and have more information at our disposal, we are still quite willing to be easily lead, and let others do the thinking for us. You’re right. Nothing has changed.
