mine went up 11%, and it's actually pretty good estimate of what my home value is now, actually it might be a tad low.

The guy complaining on WBRZ has a very valid point. His home is not worth $445 in Wood Ridge. There's a good 20-30 homes that have sold in their recently and the highest is $405.

Increased by $79,000 from 2019. This is completely absurd as this is for a condo for my kid to go to LSU. I hope Mr. Wilson realizes I will doing everything possible to make sure he does not win re-election. Glad the assessors in neighboring parishes do not pull this garbage.

You just slip them a check and tell them what value you want.

Maybe for some. If your home has been undervalued for years, then there's nothing you can say. But for some of us, the new assessments are genuinely way out of line with the actual market.

So I did actually speak to someone at the assessor's office today, after getting busy signals all morning. They basically threatened me that if I contest it, they will send someone in person to see my house and the assessed value could go up even more. I won't put any tactics past them, but the value should come down significantly with any reasonable appraisal. I'm going down swinging either way.

Yeah I got hammered too, but I knew this would happen. News flash- if Democrats win nationally they will come after both your retirement account and any capital gains. They can’t throw a holiday from reality with Covid and not get us somehow.

All of you need to have a consultation with a fee appraiser. See if they can help you with a lower value. If they can, pay for the appraisal and shove it at them. A licensed appraiser is far more accurate than the averaging software the assessor uses. They won’t fight that independent appraisal. Make sure you hire someone respected. Good luck

For those collecting data points in this thread, our appraisal went up 18.3%.

We have made no improvements either.

Same here.

FYI: I asked if they were planning on extending the inspection/contest period since they were closed 4 days for the storm. Answer: "I don't know".

Here in Jefferson parish, mine went down 5%, which is weird because it is worth more than it was a year ago. I’ll take it though

Do some research before calling. I looked up everyone's assessment on my neighborhood street and while everyone did have have an increase, they all had a new fair market home value of $155 per sq ft. My new fair market home value changed to $212 per sq ft. A huge increase and an obvious error on their part.
I called this morning and come to find out he found out my house is showing over 3200 sq footage when actually it is 2435. We are the 3rd owners of this house and it has always been 2435 living area so I thought he could just do a little research and correct it. Wrong.. he said the notes say they got that amount from the original home permit?? and will have to send someone out next week to measure my house. I don't understand how my square footage all of a sudden changed in their records??

Who else got a nasty surprise in the mail? According to the assessor, my house is now worth 20% more than it appraised for just last year. It's a BS money grab.

Got one as well. Total BS.

Do you really think this would do any good??
Our “Values” have already been assessed- hence the notice. Even if you walked in there with an appraisal they would probably say the value is established for 2020, so come back next year with a new appraisal.

Interesting fact I found when reviewing the assessed values of 20 condominiums all in the exact same complex. All of them are exactly the same floorplan & square footage, practically identical to one other with minor changes each owner has completed. I voiced concern over the recently accessed values and was told this was a mass re-assessment. When reviewing the values they range all over the place. The vast majority are owned by 1 owner and are all assessed at 165k while others sit near 225k. What a sham. The assessor needs an investigation. Total BS.
