I'm still pissed they're not again called Rebels like they were when I was at Lee.

"The Tara kids are all bused in.
It's even sadder that the families without those means, are stuck sending their kids to these terrible schools, and thus the cycle continues."
----I was at Broadmoor HS in the early 80s. A high-performing school that was brought down (deliberately?) by busing out 1/2 the students and busing in a mix of Capitol and Scotlandville HS students.
The problem wasn't so much that they were from those schools, the problem was that those 2 schools hated each other, were forced together at Broadmoor, and they carried their gang rivalries into the halls and classrooms.
That was just the first year. The % of kids bused in from those 2 schools increased steadily, until now, when Broadmoor isn't a shadow of its former self. That cycle began more than 35 years ago.

quote:Mine, too. What's hilarious about these accusations is that the student body there is very diverse. It's no different (possibly even more diverse) than the public magnet school that my son used to go to.
great school. my kid loves going there
I wonder how "diverse" the Idea School near Cortana is? Surely, they don't have enough not poor children attending, right?

The most amazing thing about the busing / Judge Parker case is that it clearly didn't work but no one is trying to undo the case. It is almost spite at this point to keep it in place even though it has been a failure for the black community.

In a town where over 50% is African-American, "Very diverse" isn't 33%.
I don't care one way or the other but lets not pretend it is Very Diverse over there.

The cultural Marxists will not tolerate excellence. Everyone must be brought down to the lowest achievers.

Care to flesh this out a bit?
My interpretation of this statement is “the law is fricking stupid”.

This image is basically the law. If all the good kids try and go to the charter schools the school boards get pissy.

Where did you see that only 33% of the school is black?
Are you assuming that all of the kids getting free lunch are black and no non poor blacks go there?
That may be the most racist thing I’ve ever seen towards blacks on this site.

What is the percentage then? I don't mind being wrong, but every recent school I have been a part of in Louisiana it has been close to that number. Is that racist? I didn't think statistics were.
Seems like you know the answer or are really passionate about it.

Not sure that number has actually been made public, just that 33% of the school is on either free or reduced lunches.
Which is apparently synonymous with black for some people.

I thought that is what the school board was even saying. If 33% isn't the number then I am asking what is it? Someone said "very diverse" so I am guessing it has to be 50% or more.
I have been involved in two other schools and the number was pretty close to that number. Maybe a coincidence.

Ok, reading a little closer...
The law is apparently “Any charter must enroll a student body approximately 85% close to the percentage of the school system at large.”
The problem here is that EBRPSS is fundamentally fricked, as no one trying to run a charter is going to intentionally want to have a school where about 75% of the student body is on free or reduced lunches.
These people don’t care that the charters are bleeding the private and parochial schools, they’re pissed that they aren’t taking more of the frickups enrolled in parish schools.
Which just reinforces my stance... the law is fricking stupid.

If it were easy to just change the law to remove stupidity, there would be an ISD without a city of St George being formed.
