eBay mystery boxes

The wife (no pics) sent me a video of some schmuck opening a mystery box he supposedly paid $10k for.
Is this real? Do people actually pay money for a box filled with random crap? I think I’ll start advertising these and see how many suckers are indeed born every minute

The only mystery box I've ever paid for, was the old Woot "Bag o' Crap."
They sold a limited number on Christmas at midnight. It was hard as hell to get one, and it was mostly weird stuff. But they used to give away a lot of crazy shite. To the point, where people would get a random phone call from a delivery company asking where they wanted the pallets delivered. And it was only like $5.
They weren't making any money. It was all for promotional purposes. And it worked. They sold the site to Amazon for $110 million several years ago.

Reminded me of the grab bags the baseball card shops would sell when I was a kid. Was just like a sealed envelope with 20 cards in it at different price points. Got some great stuff in those.

We had a family friend who was a widower rancher/farmer who would always buy the discounted canned goods from the grocery store that were missing their labels.
