If politicians really wanted to save lives the. Every car would have a breathalyzer.
So a police state?
I’m not sure a breathalyzer in every car would be Constitutional.

Starting in 2017 cars will have breathalyzers mandated in them to blow before you can drive, so eventually it’ll be hard to move around without being tested.
Yay Constitution!!

Just saw this. Supposed to be a mandate come 2027 models. Yay Democrats/Rinos!!

Cue the black market that will disassemble every breathalyzer. Again, another dumb idea

I mean this is the last year new cars won’t have the ability to evaluate drivers for impairment. The law was passed years ago.

No, but it would fix the DWI issue

Just wait until you’re not even allowed to drive anymore and every car is required to be fully automated.

I’m honestly not opposed to this. People won’t stop drunk driving.

Now if only they could find a way to make people put the goddamn phones down!

Or it might keep police out of the equation by preventing drunk driving and vehicular homicide

I swear, at least 50% of the drivers I pass by are staring at their phones. And they’re looking down at the phone. At least hold it up so the road is in your peripheral vision

1st and 2nd offense DWIs are misdemeanors.
After that it is a felony.
Somehow the habitual offenders get 1st time DWI treatment OVER AND OVER AND OVER. You will see someone with 8 DWI's being treated as a first timer. Its fricking ridiculous.
It's too easy to call a cab, uber or make arrangements to get a ride.

Are you opposed to not using your phone while driving? I am 100% positive I’ll never get a response from ya…

And again the subject changes….
The point of this thread is to talk about how the laws and requirements for first timers are laughable in terms of cheating the system

I agree. Have said this for years. But it's all about the $$$

Well yeah, that seems like a good idea.

Those are two different things. Driving another car would probably be a violation of his probation, drinking or not, and getting a ride would be the right thing to do if he is drinking.

My question is simple. Why not require a person to actually stop drinking
Drinking is not illegal unless you are advocating for a return to the days of prohibition.
quote:
vs having simple ways around it?
There are usually simple ways around everything.

We could save a lot more lives by dropping the speed limit to 10 mph.

Nah I'm not cool with that.
Hell, I get half stoned driving around BR almost daily and I don't smoke weed. I'd bet we have more stoners on the road today than drunks.
