My boss reads my emails and takes things out of context all the time.

a year or so ago the head of our training department retired abruptly, and that's a story by itself, a pool of highly qualified and experienced applicants was whittled down to two, HR gets involved and said we need a woman in that position, they tagged a female for the job that hadn't even applied nor shown interest

I was in the basement of a building (the basement had walk-out access on the rear of building) during a 6.8 earthquake. Policy dictated we use certain exits and muster at specific locations. The door was 20 feet from me, I got the frick out and stood in an open area until it made sense to regroup with co-workers. I don't recall any head-counting that day.

You get out whatever door you can get out then report to the designated zone.

let experience employees walk because they fail to keep the salary programs competitive. then spend that 2-3x over on recruiting, hiring, and training newbs who will take years to obtain the knowledge they let walk for a measly $20-30k raise during an inflation period.

Yep. Had a teacher apply. They kicked him back for a lack of customer service which is mind blowing. They didn't consider ten years of teaching kids and dealing with parents "customer service."
Ended up hiring someone far less qualified and that person probably isn't going to pass probation.
Its a farce.

A couple of years ago I think. He still thinks he has it.

My employer always goes with the safe bureaucrat versus the innovator or fixer when hiring managers.

Not my employer but my bank disassembles every piece of equipment they discard. I can see destroying the hard drive in an old PC, but they take the whole thing apart. As well as things like adding machines and other devices there's no earthly reason for. It's probably some best practice recommended by a consultant but it's a waste of effort.

Its company policy for at least one person to start a Teams meeting with a "Safety Contact" and talk about a random safety tip before we continue with the meeting.
My go-to is "Don't run with scissors."

Fire drills are one thing... in an actual fire I'd throw a fricking chair through a window before walking 200 yards to a door
