Gaslighting is funny, usually the people using the word are the ones gaslighting.
Trust but verify has been around a long arse time, dumb term used in management. Checking to make sure shite got done doesn't have the same ring to it. We frequently have the next person check that certain things were done on the previous shift, but mistakes can mean dead people and violations and the regulations on us are a bear.

"stolen land"
bitch, that land ain't gone nowhere. It's right where it was in the same place all along.
That and "please, you don't have to do this, please don't kill me". I get so tired of hearing that.

quote:
One phrase that comes to mind for me is "Trust, but verify" Look, if we are having to verify something to me that means we ain't really trusting it too much. Am I missing something here?
I’ve said this a couple of times, but have never heard anyone else say it beside the KGB guy in the Chernobyl mini series that I stole it from. And no, you not very trusting if you verify. But I do think there’s a middle ground between flat out not trusting someone and opening up yourself completely, especially in business or politics. Ernest Hemingway said the only way to know if you could trust someone is to trust them and see what happens. But that’s easier said than done.
