Coming home from bar one night around 3am. Just picked up a delicious meal of Canes. Go to turn into my neighborhood and take the turn just a little too wide. Hit the brakes and skid into this electrical station. Hit the telophone pole on the outside of it. Started my truck and parked at my house. Truck totaled

Here's a dirty little secret about driving while intoxicated. An officer certified in DWI procedures may not be on duty (the training required to stand in court is extensive, expensive, and requires frequent recertification.) Many smaller, or even larger departments cannot afford to have many of these officers on duty 24/7, if at all.
Generally, the smaller the department, the greater chance someone has of getting away with DUI as long as there is no damage to life or property- in which case state police are involved. I know of cases like this where people were stinking drunk who drove into a shallow culvert (not causing harm to others or property damage)and the smaller town and the law enforcement issued them a failure to control citation and brought them home.
Some officers in these areas know that their findings wont stand in court if the defendant hires a reasonably competent lawyer, due to their lack of dui certification.
This is why DUI "traps" exist on certain days or events at certain hours- because these dui officers are on duty and is the best way they can protect an area from DUI fatalities.

A friend and I leave a bar at 2 am skunk drunk with the bright idea to go hunting. We stop at my house and grab my camper. Then we drove out to the rice fields. Backing the trailer onto the property my friend drives into a huge ditch blocking the entire highway. We know it’s only a matter of time until the cops come. About an hour later a cop car pulls up and the two cops help us pull the truck out and move the camper. When we are finished, one of the cop says “well, (we know this is it, my friend is going to jail) you boys better hurry up, shooting time is in about 30 minutes” we thanked them and they left.
We were teenagers and very stupid. We don’t drink and drive or hunt drunk anymore since that day.

Back when I was still a drunken dipshit I wrecked the same truck while drunk. The first time I just passed out and ran it into a pond. Could've drowned since I came to with water up to the seats of my truck. Somehow that didn't stop me from doing stupid shite so I soon after I jumped a ditch and the only thing that stopped me from going into a house was the tree in the front of it. I somehow got out of there but the frame of my truck was f'ed, along with my nose and lip. It blew up on me the next day, trying to drive it home. I've not driven drunk since. Although, I was still a dipshit for a few more years.

While i was at Southeastern, a bunch of us were at one of the downtown bars drinking it up. It’s getting close to 2am and a buddy was pretty drunk. He insisted to drive home and didn’t live far. A few minutes later, we leave. A late night train was passing and traffic was backing up. The train passes and there’s still 10-15 cars in front of us and no one is moving. Finally, cars are going around the vehicle up front. When we get up there, we realize it’s my buddy. He fell asleep waiting for the train to pass. One of us jumps out of the car, wake him up and drive him home. There was probably 7-8 cars behind us. Very lucky because at 2am cops are crawling in this area to catch all the late nighter’s trying to make it back home.

Hypocrite. There was no excuse in 2000 if you couldnt even stand up and were falling into ditches.

I agree, but i also see alot of people trying to justify and make excuses for being wasted and driving when they were in college, but acting like people who do it now are different just because of uber.

I went through a checkpoint in Natchitoches. First cop ask me a couple of questions and then tells me to pull over by the cop down the road a bit. I thought I was going straight to jail. But the second cop just waves me through without a word.
I lucked out because I was drunk as a skunk.

It's never been easier to not get smashed and drive than it is today. And yes, most of us (myself included) probably made poor decisions when we were younger.
But someone can get a DUI after having a few beers which is a lot different to me than getting smashed and driving. I think if most people were being honest on here they've probably done this before and many recently. I've gone and had 3 pints of beer after work with coworkers and have driven home. Was I drunk? No. Would I have gotten a DUI if I was pulled over? Maybe

I saw a guy rub the railing of the Mississippi River bridge three times sparks flying each time. It was around 5:30-6 AM, and the guy made it to the Lobdell exit.
