Thank goodness (I'm just glad at least someone survived) but I can imagine they're devastated.

This is why all drunk driving should be equated legally as attempted homicide or at least negligent homicide, all drunk driving. It always puts other lives in danger. And I have a selfish brother who has driven drunk 100's of times.

I once saw a car going very fast and swerving East bound in the West bound lanes of I-10 between Nola and Baton Rouge on the bridge.

It was like 2 AM on a weekend night. We called the cops and checked the papers for something, but couldn't find anything.

The reckless discharge of a firearm at a parade in LA is a minimum sentence of 5 years, 3 of which must be served without the benefit of parole, probation, or suspension.

Something like that seems reasonable for DUIs.

FYI, one of the girls had their father pass away around 8 months ago to a massive heart attack. Rough year for that family.

So does speeding and texting while driving, should we lock them up too?

I agree. Drunk drivers who injury someone else should be charged with attempted murder or murder if they kill someone. Laws are way too lax, which is why it keeps happening.

He's saying drunk drivers, of all intoxication levels, should be arrested for attempted murder, even if they don't hurt anyone.

So someone driving 6 blocks from their house at 25 mph with .08 BAC should basically lose their life.

ETA:

I use this specific example because I've done it countless times to our neighborhood grocery store. I'll be cooking dinner and drinking red wine and forget something so I'll go 6 blocks to the store going no faster than 25 mph to get onions or something after 2-3 glasses of wine.

He thinks I should be charged with attempted murder.

Yea and that guy is far less impaired than somebody looking up a contact in their phone to call.

There should be a level where "grave indifference" comes into play. If you're driving with a BAC of .16, which accounts for like 70% of fatal alcohol-impaired driving fatalities, the penalties should be much steeper.
