I have a 24 yr old family member with a serious narcotics issue. We decided to get him out of Texas and have sent him to St Christopher's in BR.

Great place

However, the complete program is around 6-9 months and is quite costly. We can get him through 3 months there, but he'll need to switch after and wants to stay in BR. And have no doubt, he won't be ready to just be plopped in some crappy sober home with no real structure.

Any suggestions?

Best of luck there.

No place will be able to help him if he doesn't want help.

Check out Cenikor- 2 year treatment program and they put them to work and keep their paychecks as payment- it only costs $400 to register I think. My brother is there now and it's a good program. Good luck

I've seen this too many times. Don't let him bleed you dry. Nobody wants to change until they hit rock bottom.

Colorado isn't the best place. I worked with a guy who went there to get off of oxy and ended up on heroin. I guess the hippies are into the "natural" stuff up there

There is heroin everywhere. Haven't met any heroines lately

Cenikor is an option.

If he likes BR I'm fine with that. Not any worse that central texas for drugs I can assure you.

Thanks for the info.

He's 24 years old. Make him pay for his own treatment if he wants to be sober.

Cenikor is a racket. Slave labor for the people there and the money to the operation. No counseling, 12 step, etc. they are not allowed to take their meds. There is no privacy even on calls with parents and/or lawyers. If you think that day after day gutting fish at Tony's is rehab, you are wrong. The only ones that I know who "completed" the program did so under court order. It is a complete sham.

Red River Treatment Center in a Pineville is not luxurious but effective.

My brother has gotten a lot of help/counseling there. They've even got him on a career path as an electrician. It's been a true blessing for us, even if it was by court order. Being there for 2 years was and still is his best chance of staying sober and learning a trade to establish a career.

As far as I know, he doesn't work more than an normal laboring job (maybe 8-10 hours a day), and he just started going to AA meetings on the premises, and he was leading classes/discussions for all the new people.

As for privacy, there shouldn't be any at a rehab facility- calls visits absolutely should be monitored at all times.

Cenikor is a last option treatment IMO. Traditional 90 day programs are effective IF the addict wants to quit.
