tail lights are all you need. Hazards are for stopped vehicles.
I see hazard lights I expect to stop. When you are doing 60mph in the rain, you don't need hazards. If you are doing 30 you need to pull to the shoulder.

the correct maneuver would be to pull over on to the shoulder or exit road way till you deem it safe to drive. Not to cause congestion on a roadway in when it rains.
Let's say I think it's safe to drive, but just want to be cautious on the interstate...is it better to use hazard lights or pull on the shoulder?
Don't try to tell me pulling on the shoulder is safe in low visibility weather.

Makes sense. I was thinking interstate driving.
This is what made me post this. Traveling to Lake Charles from Baton Rouge and was happy to make it out of BR with no traffic issues only to get bogged down going over the basin bridge because people have flashers on driving 20mph in all lanes causing bumper to bumper traffic. If you don't feel safe, get off the road.

So it causes drivers to slow down during hazardous conditions? Oh the horror!!!!!!
It makes a dangerous situation even worse. It shouldn't be done.
The turning lights in most vehicles don't work when the hazards are engaged. The logic is if you're using your hazard lights, there should be no need for a blinker because you're on the side of the road.

If people used their hazard lights correctly, pulling over off the road and putting on your hazard lights would be a perfectly viable solution. Other drivers will know that you're obviously not on the road and should be avoided.
The issue is that some people do that while others drive 25 MPH in the left and right lanes with their hazard lights on, causing a complete clusterfrick.

Yes, I agree with you that if you have to go 20 mph on an interstate, it's best to exit and wait it out.
As regards to maintaining 70 in low visibility, no ones yet to convince me that it's more dangerous to use flashers. Good discussion, still going to do what I want.

f bad weather with low visibility, put hazard on to increase safety.
No you're part of the damn problem. If you feel the need to put your hazards on then you need to pull over and sit on the shoulder until it's safe for you to drive.
People put their hazards on because they think they're doing the other drivers a favor. Well you're NOT doing me a favor, you're actually distracting me even more and making it more difficult to navigate through the rain.

safer than going 30 mph slower than other cars.

driving with your hazard lights on confuses knowledgeable drivers behind you, and since that causes them to slow down, it is a good strategy?
Knowledgeable drivers take sensory cues from around them to assess the situation and never make assumptions. If you think that the car in the middle lane is stopped because his hazards are on despite the fact that all traffic is moving, maybe you shouldn't be driving.

I seriously don't get why this bothers people.
I don't do it, but am not bothered at all when someone infront of me does. What's the source of yalls anger on this?
I understand it is incorrect by law/practice, but don't see why people give a frick beyond that.

Care to enlighten me on the downside of hazard lights?
A lot of cars have hazzard lights that look the same as brake lights. If you're in a heavy rain and behind a car that has their brake lights constantly flashing it always takes an extra second or two to determine if they are actually putting on the brakes or its just their hazzard lights. That unnecessary extra second is enough to cause a big wreck.

Please if anything.. spread the word!! How this become a thing is mind blowing...it's become an epidemic. It's spreading like wild fire. You used to never see this and now it's everywhere.

Sorry you have no situational awareness.

Only pussies and old ladies drive with their hazard lights on.

If I'm coming up on a car in the middle lane with hazards on, I'll turn on my blinker and change lanes. When said driver switches lanes with no ability to warn drivers behind him because he has his hazards on, and veers into the lane of vehicles trying to pass him, how is that safe?

Guess I'm an old lady and a pussy. Shucks, already failed my New Years resolution to be a cool guy.
My alternate New Years resolution: to not drive with hazard lights on so the cool kids on the OT can stop crying

It makes a dangerous situation even more unsafe. Plain and simple.
