It isn’t nearly as hard as it is made out to be. In fact it is fairly simple, just no one uses it because the engine computers of 2019 can control the gearbox better than someone driving a 4-speed ford pinto.

Sometimes I hold the gear stick and move my left leg around at res lights so chicks think I’m driving a manual.
It doesn’t seem to help.

Most people my age that I know can drive a manual so I dont get the trashing of millennials because they cant drive stick.
They read an spam email one time that told them millennials couldn't drive a standand and they reposted it on Facebook. It had to be true.
No one buys manuals any longer because of all the issues listed in this thread, car companies know this and don't make them any longer.
Look at the other thread where millinnials aren't even buying cars.
So, if we put that info together it means that older people who buy cars are the ones not buying manuals.

I drove a vehicle with a sequential box as a weekend toy.
Honest answer, more of a pain in the dick than anything else.

Still popular in Europe from the folks I communicate with on-line.
In Europe they call automatic cars handicapped cars. Like the big arse passenger vans have stuck shifts.
It’s really weird.

Akin to women bragging about not getting and epidural during labor. Some weird badge of honour that means nothing except in their own mind

Maybe for the fuel efficiency? I don’t know.

Even in Europe they are quickly disappearing.

Glad to have it for that once a decade event.

Try a manual in England. The side of the vehicle you're on is reversed. The side of the road you're on is reversed. The arm you hold the stick with is reversed. But the order of the gears is, unexpectedly, the same. So 1 is farthest from you and 5/6 is closest. fricks you up

That isn’t true. A manual shifter will go higher on the rpms and burn more fuel where the engine computer will shift it up quicker and keep the rpms lower

Exactly. There's so much unadulterated bullchit on this subforum that it's mind boggling. It's like the heterosexual white male version of the YouTube comments section.
The main up side to a standard shift transmission is its simplicity, and, therefore, its longevity. Longevity of a transmission is an important issue when doing things that strain it, like HD towing.
If driving a standard is in any way a "chore" when running errands, etc., then you do not know how to drive a standard. You may be able, but by no means are you anything close to being capable. The concept is simple, and it's second nature after a few days of doing it. It's fun when you want it to be, and background noise when you couldn't care less.

There's also a huge difference between driving a manual truck and a manual sports car or super car.
I don't care how capable you think you are driving a standard.

Thank you for injecting common sense.
I own 3 cars with manuals right now. Love them.

My mom brought home a car for me when I was turning 16. She said I got you a stick shift because you ain't a pussy. I stalled It a few times on steep hills but my love for my mom has increased greatly since that statement.

As much as I enjoy driving a manual anyone that gets a shred of enjoyment out of driving a manual, especially a performance car with a heavy clutch, in stop and go traffic like is becoming the daily norm on 10/12 in BR is a masochist.

The computer is too dumb to know what road and load conditions are ahead and often puts itself in the wrong gear in its endless pursuit to get to 6th ASAP. Theres much more to fuel economy than minimizing RPM.
