I had a 1994 fair lady Z twin turbo, it was a very fun little car to drive but always wanted the 3000gt vr4 as a teenager.

The RX-7 of the time was one quick car. Too bad the turn cycle engine blew up after about two years.

I gotta hot take on that. Maybe because Godzilla became godlike in the US mainly for being forbidden fruit. Spurred by a generation of sim racers. There are a ton of overhyped cars but the R32/33/34 GT-Rs are near the very top of the pyramid.

To some extent in the US yes, however remember it was given the name Godzilla for a reason. The skyline completely dominated the Japanese domestic race scene during the 90s, as well as becoming a strong performer internationally.

From 1991, Australia was the GT-R’s first export market, and after it knocked the venerable Ford Sierra Cosworth off the podium at the Australian Touring Car Championship, Australian press started to refer to it as “Godzilla, the monster from Japan”.

 Sierra Cosworth

Was one badass car. I was lucky enough to have one in the late 80s.

~320hp in a twin turbo'd AWD coupe weighing only 3100 pounds is pretty damn good though, especially for 1989.
