I had mine on auto drip like it would collect in the tray but every now and again it would empty the tray through this hose I had going to the sink

After an entire summer of running the thing on auto drip in my slum I was living in I finally turned it off and opened the tray to dump it all out.

What I found was the weirdest nastiest shite I’m not even sure like what life form classification it would be. It wasn’t mold.

It was like …. Clear grey jelly on top with like a 5 o clock shadow

No thanks

I would say no. Too many particulates will fall in the water overtime and become fungus food that water will probably end up having a musty taste. It wouldn't kill you but I have to caution you, the back end of your dehumidifier (tank and or hose) can become a perfect breading ground for Legionella if the area is not kept clean. Legionella is not good.

I would recommend disinfecting or boiling the water before drinking it if you really were determined to drink it.

This.

I’m not saying drink it if you have a safer alternative at hand.
you know Elon and other companies have installed these large billboards in African Desert countries that do exactly that. Pulls the little moister out of the air for drinking water for the communities.

I find the condensed water from our a/c evaporator drain pan to be quite refreshing after mowing the lawn or strenuous summer-time activity.

This is literally how people get legionella or legionnaires disease, though most of the time it's a cross contaminated line without a check valve, and not someone drinking it intentionally .

Don't do it.

Don’t listen to these guys, if you are thirsty, drink the dehumidifier water. People around here are too uptight to have a good time. Except for the gummie guy, he’s so stoned he posted it twice on two different pages.

I guess you could if you were severely dehydrated and had no access to water, other than that why would you even think about this?

I was thinking about this the other day when we have boil alerts and other water issues. Would this be a safe alternative if needed?

I'm sure this will be a nice complement to your bong water which you apparently have also been drinking.

This reminds me of something that i've always wanted to do.

Set up a humidifier and a dehumidifier next to each other and let them battle it out.

Yea, if you have a colonoscopy scheduled and you’re a cheap bastard that doesn’t want to pay the $1.25 co pay for the prep, knock yourself out.

There was a company our of Australia that built dehumidifiers with filters to replace the big bottles you see in offices. I know a guy who was part of a small group to buy distribution rights for the US. They partnered with a Chinese company for mass manufacturing and it went to hell. Story I was told is parts that needed metals were replaced with cheap plastics, and the machines kept breaking. After several years - the Chinese said FU, we'll steal tech and it was a total loss for US investors- several million dollars gone.
